Ogude to miss quarterfinal

Posted: 30 January 2013 Time: 12:22 pm

Nigeria midfielder Fegor Ogude will be suspended for Nigeria's Afcon quarterfinal against Ivory Coast on Sunday.

The midfielder picked up a yellow card against Burkina Faso, and another in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Ethiopia.

LOC officials met in Rustenburg on Wednesday morning to decide on disciplinary issues and resolved that the slate would not be wiped clean.

"The decision is that one yellow card can play, but two yellow cards will be suspended," Emmanuel Maradas, Media Manager at Rustenburg told KickOffNigeria.com.

The decision means players like Ogude on two yellow cards, will miss the quarterfinal games.

Ogude will be a big miss for Nigeria. His grit, power and enterprise in the holding role have provided the platform for the likes of John Mike Obi and Nosa Igiebor to venture up field with ease.

Likely replacements for the Valerenga man will be either Nosa Igiebor, or Kano Pillars' Babriel Reuben.

The latter is yet to see action so far, after only just recovering from illness.

Please check the rules. If 2 teams tie on points, their head to head result will be used to determine who places higher. In this case, Ivory Coast beat both Togo and Tunisia so no matter what happens, the winner of Togo vs Tunisia can only have same 6 points with Ivory Coast. In this case, the Elephants win over both teams will make them finish higher on the table. Understand?

@ HRKIREKS

Boss, Ivory Coast have won the group already. What applies here is the head to head between the teams. Ivory coast have beaten both Togo and Tunisia meaning no team will finish above Ivory Coast in group D. Algeria are already out because even if they beat Ivory Coast, they will only have 3 points and have also failed to beat both Tunisia and Togo. I hope i manage to help you there

It is clear that Nigeria will play Ivory Coast irrespective of what happens today because Ivory Coast already have superior head to head over Togo and Tunisia.

Now that Keshi waddled into quarter final will the Buffoons at NFF still going to hire a foreign coach? I say bring Siasia to help with the offense and no Oyinbo. We cant go run for Oyinbo any time something goes wrong with our football. The African mentality. It is beyond hiring a foreign coach it is a matter of puting food on the table for an African family. Spending all that foreing exchange moeny on a so called foreign coach is unpatriotic. The guys at the NFF are looking for ways to get dollars in their pocket through kickbacks they dont have the interest of the country. They should have kept Siasia and provide help with his people skills we wont be having all these goaless draws.

Fegor is a hitman, he has done so well and would have given Yaya a run for his money. I wish Obiora or Onazi can do it.

Nigeria is in big problem, up till now it has been by the grace of God, now we will no that faith without work is death James 2:14-26....Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them Mattew 7:20. I have said this words for almost a month now, this team have nothing good going for it, look at yesterday's game will be a testimony of the limited football knowledge that Keshi had, they say when your job is on the line that is when you bring out your best, my God if that is Keshi's best then we are truly in big problem, no combination passes, no good ball movement, yobo is running because he does not want to hang his career on a losing team, it was after the second goal he came in, mikel is running from another penalty because he dose not want to miss another one, victor Moses had to step up to take the penalty after been flawed because everybody is running and he almost missed the second penalty which show our boys are not confident in them self. So even if we play draw with CIV, who will play the penalty for us. My people no matter how we look at this the next game CIV will walk through the valley of the shadow of death.

@zion 2 I hope you are not addressing me, if its for me let me know, the Institution of super eagles is bigger than any one man, if not monetary, we all have emotional ties to it, and my support for the Institution is unwavering, but what I will not support is the attitude of a few. I support for the super eagle if not equal but bigger that the people that runs it and for some people that are on this forum, thinking that supporting anything either good or bad make you patriotic citizen is nothing but a damn fool, I live in canada I we critic every move the coach do if we are not happy with it, and that's is the only way good things can happen, that is what they call love for the game.

Ogude could've pose a big threat for Yaya and Gervinho. The guy presence on the field reminds me of Gattuso however hope he keeps improving.
