Louis Saha spotted at OR Tambo

Sunderland striker Louis Saha, who is linked with a move to the PSL, has been spotted at OR Tambo Airport – with Mamelodi Sundowns rumours growing.

The news of the transfer broke yesterday, when Sunderland announced they are willing to cancel the remainder of Saha’s contract as the player is unhappy at the club.

Black Cats manager Martin O’Neill said “I have heard that there is some interest in South Africa for Louis and it might be of some interest to him.”

Former Super Eagles media officer, and current SuperSport pundit, Idah Peterside tweeted a few minutes ago: “Just met Louis Saha at the airport, what is he doing here, Sunderland just told him to leave, we hear Sundowns FC, don't say I told you.”

The player himself tweeted yesterday: “It is time to turn left or right for me. Huge corner.”

Striker Louis Saha has been told he can leave Sunderland half-way through his one-year deal after it was agreed his contract at the Stadium of Light will be terminated by mutual consent if he finds another club.

Saha joined on a free transfer in the summer following his release by Tottenham, but the much-travelled French international found his opportunities limited at Sunderland with Steven Fletcher playing as a lone striker for much of the campaign and youngster Connor Wickham also ahead of him in the pecking order.

Saha, who counts Newcastle United, Fulham, Manchester United and Everton amongst the clubs he has played for, has not started a Premier League game for the club and has failed to find the net in a red and white shirt. He is now expected to head to South Africa to conclude his career.

“As of today, we have told Louis he is free to speak to other clubs and to leave if he can fix himself up somewhere,” manager Martin O’Neill told the Shields Gazette. “We have come to an agreement whereby we will cancel the remainder of his contract, shake hands and go our separate ways.

“That said, we are still a bit short in terms of numbers, and Louis may stay with us until the end of the month until such time as hopefully we have strengthened the squad a little more. But we agreed that he could go as early as today, if he wishes to.

“I have heard that there is some interest in South Africa for Louis, and it might be of some interest to him.”
