Pirates chasing Awal

Posted: 2 January 2013 Time: 06:22 pm

Orlando Pirates could sign Maritzburg United defender Mohammed Awal during the January transfer window.

Pirates are on the lookout for a central defender and Awal, who has been in fine form for United and has made it into Ghana's provisional squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, appears to be their target.

Zambian midfielder Rainford Kalaba has also been linked with a move from TP Mazembe to join Bucs.

According to a source at Pirates, the club has already engaged both United and the player in bid to sign him.

"Kalaba and Awal remain our targets during this transfer window. The player is keen to join Pirates but it all will depend on whether Maritzburg United agree to release him during the January transfer window," the source says.

United boss Farook Kadodia sounded cagey when asked about the chances of the player joining Pirates in January.

"I can't comment. Why don't you call Pirates? Please call Pirates," Kadodia said.

We are now in 2013, but some things just won't change..... COWments from Zebras are still senseless, dumb, stupid, below mediocre, intellectually challenged, whatever you choose to call them.

With Rooi 'Ingubo' Mahamutsa injured, Robyn Johannes also injured, RDS had to use Ayanda Gcaba as cover up in defense. He has of course performed well especially when Siyabonga 'Instimbi' Sangweni has been injured or suspended, but fact remains....his natural position is not central defense. This would be a good signing especially because we only expect Ingubo, my comforter to come back next season. And I am not quite sure what RDS' plans are with Johannes. the transfer window couldn't have opened at a better time

Johanes wants to re-locate to Cape Town, so with Ngubo out for the season n Lucky aging, we need need a center back or Gcaba be converted permanently since Nzunga is also back to compete with Jele with Matlaba n Phungwayo. At Sangweni need to be rested.

I would have preferd a more young sourh african player like Mokeke but Dr Khoza knows best, OJ is also available n RDS knows him back.

OJ the prodical son has returned, the best defender ever in mzansi.

They wanted Myeni, n he chose Bucs.

They wanted Bennie, he chose Bucs.

They wanted Bibo, he cose Bucs.

They now want Kalaba n Musona n guese what, they will chose Bucs.

In short, any player that Pirates want, Chiefs won't even get, in Mathoho's case we pulled out of the race.

You obviously dont have a clue of what you are talking about. I am sure you have not thought first as to why Pirates could be in a look out for a central defender at this stage of the season. You obviously didnt count as to how many central defenders available and to immediately do the job if called upon, and who are those central defenders.

Mahamutsa has a long-term injury. RJ has been injured for a better part of this season and that leaves us with the young and inexperienced Gumede as central defence cover. Pirates will also be playing CAF competition this year apart from domestic campaign. It makes sense then to sign a central defender at this stage. Tortoises had a great defence last season as shown by goals scored against stats, the questions that were asked stem from that. Sometimes we need to use logic when commenting and not to comment for the sake of it. Its a kind suggestion, not command by the way

Now what's wrong with Pirates strengthening their team?I feel its up to the players who are not getting game time to do self-introspection as to whether they themselves are doing enough to warrant a starting berth.More often than not,we read that some of them grew up aspiring to play for the so-called big teams,so when that happens, they seem to think they have arrived and do whatever blows their hair back.I will saying it again,Pirates (as well as other teams)must strengthen their team and those who are falling short should be offloaded.NOT A PIRATES SUPPORTER BUT A FOOTBALLER LOVER.

The majority of our 7 defensive minded players(bibo, jali, manyisa, jele, matlaba) we are using have all scored goals, and some more than once. We also have the least number of goals conceded. At one stage we were 7pts away from log leaders, but now we are only 1-point away from log leaders. Thus, our system has improved our overall performance as at one stage we were conceding a lot of goals while scoring less.

The above article shows the many twists and turns to this as it shows Pirates have already made their intentions with both the player and with the onwer of the team, but the owner of the team doesnt want to shed light (obviously at this stage of the negotiations). Soccerladuma also recently reported that Awal was called to the office and told of the interest and that he will be let gone at the right price.
