United and AmaTuks draw

Posted: 18 December 2012 Time: 09:26 pm

Maritzburg United and University of Pretoria drew 1-1 in a League encounter at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night.

AmaTuks took the lead through a penalty kick from Mame Niang, before the hosts replied in similar fashion through Cuthbert Malajila.

The visitors had an early chance in the sixth minute when Ayanda Lubelo connected with a cross from Aubrey Ngoma, but he sent his header over the crossbar.

However, six minutes later AmaTuks were awarded a penalty when United goalkeeper Shu-aib Walters was adjudged to have fouled Niang inside the penalty area.

The Senegalese forward then stood up to take the spot kick and made no mistake as he placed his shot into the top corner, 1-0.

The visitors had a chance to double the lead in the 18th minute when Lubelo was offered space to shoot outside the box, but he sent his shot over the crossbar.

Two minutes later Niang came close to doubling the lead when he had a sight on goal, but he also fired his shot over the bar.

Then in the 35th minute the home side were awarded a penalty of their own when Tebogo Monyai was adjudged to have fouled Malajila inside the penalty area.

The Zimbabwean forward took responsibility to take the resultant spotkick and made no mistake as he buried his shot past AmaTuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi to send the sides into the break with level scores, 1-1.

The Team of Choice came close to grabbing the lead in the 53rd minute when Terrence Mandaza released Malajila, but he failed to score his second goal of the match as he shot wide of goal.

Then Lubelo had another chance at the other end twelve minutes later as he collected a cross from Ngoma, only to fire his shot wide of the target.

The visitors threatened to steal maximum points in the 86th minute when substitute David Radebe connected with a cross from Mpho Matsi, but he directed his header over the crossbar.

Two minutes later Niang had another chance of his own, but the Senegalese sent his header wide of the post as the two sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Maritzburg United move up to fourth place with 24 points, while AmaTuks remain in sixth place with 23 points.

AmaZulu were not relegated for the past few seasons... who are you to judge them. What is your yardstick, cos teams are judged based on their position in the league table. According to your opinion which team(s) deserve more than amaZulu to be in the PSL????
