Orlando Pirates win 3 - 2 on aggregate

Meyiwa the hero as Bucs go through

Posted: 5 May 2013 Time: 05:30 pm

Two penalties and a red card – all allegedly dubious and with that, Orlando Pirates have defied the odds to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League despite losing 1-0 to TP Mazembe on Sunday in Lubumbashi.

Bucs progress after winning 3-2 on aggregate.

Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi was sent off in the first-half with Pirates officials describing the referee’s decision as a “joke” and as if that was not enough, two penalties were awarded to Mazembe but Senzo Meyiwa was equal to the task on both occasions.

According to Pirates administrator Senzo Mazingisa, the team will be coming back home immediately after the match.

Pirates XI v Mazembe: Meyiwa, Jele, Phungwayo, Lekgwathi, Gcaba, Okonkwo, Masalesa, Bester, Myeni, Segolela, Mbesuma.

Mazembe XI v Pirates: Kidiaba, Kasusula, Kabiona, Kimwaki, Frimpong, Singuluma, Sinkala, Mputu, Kabangu, Samatta, Asante.

They have now prevailed and as we have been saying all along this is a victory for the Country and hence everyone now appreciates the experience you stand to gain in this tournament although in this case the congolese took it too far.

This performance sparked into memory the 2006 golden generation that should have formed the spine of that 2010 World Cup team if we were living in Utopia, so to remind myself of that team I goodled Continental. From a historical point of view Katanga province, whose governor ironically was Moise Tshombe (Moise Katumbi) ordered the death of the revolutionary Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba which has caused this never ending civil war from which DRC has not recovered to this day.

Anyway on another issue how i wished Supersport to win yesterday coz there was a possibity of them drawing TP Mazembe.

To conquer Africa each club representing their respective nation has to have the support of the entire country. I would like to take this moment to congratulate The Sea Robbers on a job well done. We are enemies inside these borders but long life brothers out the gates of Mzansi. I am not glory-riding but merely repeating my sentiments from after the game against the team from the Comoro Islands. South Africa can only get tougher as an African footballing Nation if our teams continue to do well Internationally. Unfortunate that SSU hot knocked out yesterday cos we couldn't show them tje support needed to over those Egyptians.
F**k what you have to say,Im South African and no one will stop me from supporting a team that goes out there to reclaim our Nation's pride. I will be supporting your home legs. We need to keep Orlando Stadium full to ensure that every Bucs home game is a 3-pointer!
Go as far as you possibly can Bucs faithfuls as this will only grant us an opportunity to have more participating teams in this joke of a CAF League.

Next season Bucs and Chiefs should be taking part in the tournament. I still say,for Bafana to be a top side,we need the squad to be dominated by the Soweto giants.

Well Done Bucs.

I have lost all my respect for TP Mazembe. Is this how they won all those CL titles? Is this how they earned the privilege of being called an African giant? It's disgusting.

But then at the same time, I know better than to believe a one sided story. Let me rather reserve any comments I have against TP Mazembe until this whole event has been properly unpacked and stripped for all to see.

I'm happy that my team has progressed to the group stages of the CL. Thank you Senzo for the saves, and thanks to the Smart Galaxies for defending our advantage.

The Lion King, Mahamutsa, Johannes, Bibo, Matlaba, Slimkat, and Sangweni will all be back and fully fit for the group stages. Roger de Sa will have no excuse not to qualify for the semi's.

We need a full and fit squad. If memory serves me right, Mayambela is also registered for this tournament. I hope Roger can use him too. That guy has potential. He just needs a mentor; someone who will push him into the right direction.

This must have been hurting for TP Mazembe & co, I mean to stoop so low and still lose the game!
