Celtic deny Downs in Free State

Mamelodi Sundowns remain unbeaten in the Absa Premiership, despite playing to a goalless draw with Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening.
Toni Silva almost opened the scoring for the Brazilians in the tenth minute with a free header inside the of the box, but his effort bounced on top of the crossbar.
Ndumiso Mabena had a wonderful opportunity to snatch the lead for Siwelele in the 20th minute with a strike at the near post that was parried away by Masandawana goalkeeper Denis Onyango who made a follow up save to deny Lantshene Phalane.
The Tshwane giants were beginning to have the upper hand again after half-an-hour always, looking threatening whenever they were in possession going forward.
Phakamani Mahlambi had a chance to find the breakthrough for the visitors ten minutes before halftime with a free-kick from just outside the box, but his curling effort sailed wide of the mark.
The tempo of the match fizzled out towards the end of the half and despite the Brazilians threatening with their combinations going forward, they could not get on target and the first stanza ended goalless.
Sibusiso Vilakazi came close to grabbing the lead for Masandawana eight minutes after the break with a glancing header inside the box that sailed narrowly wide.
With 20 minutes to go, Lorenzo Gordinho almost snatched the lead for Steve Komphela’s with a powerful header at the back post following a cross but Onyango made an acrobatic save.
Tebogo Potsane should have bagged the lead for Siwelele moments later after going through one-on-one with Onyango who was way out of his line, but the youngster guided his low shot wide with the net gaping.
Masandawana had the ball in the back of the net eight minutes before time through Lebohang Maboe with a side-footed shot inside the box, but the goal was ruled out for offside as Themba Zwane was lurking on the blind side as the spoils were shared on the night.
