Komphela's Arrows sink Maritzburg

Steve Komphela got his Golden Arrows tenure off to a positive start with a 2-0 victory over Maritzburg United.
In contrast, Muhsin Ertugral was left cutting a frustrated figure after a loss in his first match in charge after being appointed Fadlu Davids' successor on Friday.
Abafana Bes'Thende took the lead and it came courtesy of some superb one touch passing before Danny Venter delivered a peach of a cross to the penalty spot for Knox Mutizwa to head home.
Soon after, Venter almost turned from creator to scorer but his blistering effort which looked destined for the top-corner was diverted over by the fingertips of Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori.
It could have been 2-0 in the 22nd minute after Mutizwa failed to take advantage of an error by Maritzburg defender Brian Onyango, with Ofori coming to his side's rescue once again.
Mutizwa would not reappear after the break due to injury and it would be his replacement Joao Moreira who would score with his first touch on the pitch to double the home side's lead in the 47th minute.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men when Wayde Jooste was sent off for a reckless studs-up challenge in the 65th minute. The Team of Choice sought to capitalise on their numerical advantage and so began to play with a greater intensity as Deolin Mekoa blasted his effort inches over the crossbar after promising build-up play.
Arrows brought Musa Bilankulu on for Venter as they looked to shore things up at the back.
Ertugral's side would try as they might but ultimately could not make use of the extra man, despite a late effort from Keletso Makgalwa that went narrowly over the bar.
