City held by Chippa in Cape Town

Cape Town City were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday evening at Athlone Stadium.
The Citizens grabbed the lead in the eighth minute through Riyaad Norodien’s strike inside the box following a pass from Taariq Fielies.
Rhulani Manzini brought parity for the Chilli Boys in the 16th minute with a cracking free-kick from outside the box.
Benni McCarthy’s charges controlled the tempo of the match after, while the visitors were absorbing the pressure.
Teko Modise almost restored the lead for City on the half-hour mark with a thunderbolt from range but United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi smothered the strike.
Ayanda Patosi had a good chance to make it 2-1 to the hosts seven minutes before the break with a free-kick from the edge of the box but he curled his strike a over the top corner of the bar as the sides went into the break level.
The game got physical in the opening exchanges of the second stanza as tackles were flying all over the place in the middle of the park.
Edmilson Dove fancied his chances for City on the hour-mark with a thunderous strike from range that was saved by Akpeyi.
McCarthy’s men were knocking the ball around as the half went on, while Chippa were mainly absorbing the pressure just as they did in the first half.
City brought in Allan Kateregga ten minutes before time in place of goalscorer Norodien, looking for fresh energy upfront.
The game was on the edge in the closing minutes with the Citizens pushing for the winner but the Chilli Boys stood firm for the share of spoils.
