Polokwane City claimed the spoils in the Limpopo derby as goals in either half secured a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
In what was a rather slow start, both teams failed to ignite the encounter after limited amount of chances came forth in the opening spell.
With shots from range by Walter Musona near 20 minutes, that was the closest it got to the game grabbing a goal.
Ghanaian Mohamed Anas missed a free header from close range after a free-kick following 33 minutes. The deadlock was to be broken and it came from an error from the away outfit.
Baroka goalkeeper Ayanda Dlamini misjudged a back-pass hoping it was going to go out of play, but Anas latched on and teed-up Musona for an easy finish into an empty net.
A cross from out wide found Ranca Chavaviro who got down for a low header, but George Chigova outstretched arm ensured a one-handed save with the follow up from Talent Chawapihwa going over.
Both sides returned from the break unchanged, as Bakgaga nearly draw level from a free-kick but a decisive touch was missing, allowing the ball to roll out of play.
A few moments later, it was to be Baroka again pressing for an equaliser with a shot from range by Mduduzi Mdantsane forcing Chigova to punch back into play.
The hosts did well to sustain the earlier onslaught, but still failed to pose any meaningful threats to Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele’s goal.
Dangerman Rodney Ramagalela found space out on the right and played in a low cross, but neither of his teammates was able to make contact from close range.
It was all City towards the midway point, and Anas had the chance to extend their advantage but after getting goal-side and with Jabulani Maluleke in a better option, opted for goal and blasted wide.
With 20 minutes to go, the evergreen Maluleke tapped in easily following a nicely played cross-field pass from Ramagalela to double Polokwane's lead.
Shortly from coming from the bench, Bongile Booi ran towards a ball played out wide but Dlamini narrowed the angle to send the attempt into touch albeit of his face on 80 minutes.
Maluleke came close to adding his brace and the league’s first, but Dlamini pulled off a close-range save in added time as Polokwane ran out victors.
