Free State Stars handed Maritzburg United their second defeat in a row in the Absa Premiership, after winning 2-1 at Goble Park on Wednesday.
Stars wasted no time asserting their authority, with the first shot on goal from Goodman Dlamini with an effort from just outside the box in the first minute.
Maritzburg’s first effort on goal saw Mxolisi Kunene striking over the top after gliding past two markers near the middle of the park on 17 minutes.
Ea Lla Koto had the last attacking foray of the half and it was Dlamini at the heart of it again, but his efforts to bend Richard Ofori were unsuccessful.
After a slow start to the second half, Siphesihle Ndlovu came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock, but his shot from afar failed to test Badra Ali Sangare.
Stars went ahead on 65 minutes when Harris Tchilimbou latched home from the penalty spot following a foul inside the box.
Dlamini rounded off the contest four minutes from time, curling home expertly from outside the box after collecting a loose ball.
Maritzburg did find a consolation in the closing stages, with new signing Keletso Makgalwa finding the back of the net.
