STANTON LEWIS NOW HEADING TO FC COPENHAGEN

Ajax Cape Town forward Stanton Lewis has been left in the lurch after a scheduled trial with Swedish giants Djurgardens IF failed to take place on Monday.

The former youth international is back in Denmark and now appears to be headed for FC Copenhagen, who previously showed interest in him.

“There are big clubs that want to sign me as soon as possible, whereas Djurgaden were only thinking of signing me in January. Once I put pen to paper, that is when I will disclose who the other clubs are,” he tells KickOff.com.

The 22-year-old’s trial at Djurgaden was initially scheduled to begin with a friendly match on Monday evening. However, he received some shocking news ahead of the match.

“I did not play. They called me in an hour before the game to tell me I was leaving. It is crazy but that is football,” he says.

Lewis has played in Europe previously. In 2006, he signed with Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, but did not make a first-team appearance. He returned to the Urban Warriors in January 2009 after an 18-month loan deal.

Injury and weight problems scuttled his progress and there even were reports that his injury would put paid to his career.

He nonetheless bounced back last season, regaining his goalscoring touch, most notably in the Telkom Knockout where Ajax finished runners-up to Kaizer Chiefs.
