Chiefs continue good run

Posted: 14 May 2008 Time: 21:19

Kaizer Chiefs have continued their good form and moved into fifth in the Absa Premiership with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night.

Amakhosi were always in control of the game and goals in either half from Arthur Zwane and Mabhuti Khenyeza sealed the three points.

There were few chances in the first half, though Chiefs did have the better of the play and deserved their lead at the break.

Siphiwe Tshabalala had the first shot in anger, but his low drive was palmed to safety by Shu-Aib Walters in the visitors’ goal.

An excellent turn from Petrus Mahlatsi created some space, but his shot from the edge of the area was always going wide of Itumeleng Khune’s goal.

But the breakthrough came on 43 minutes as brilliant work from Tshabalala on the left saw the winger drive to the byline, and lay the ball back to Zwane, who side-footed home from the middle of the box to give Amakhosi the lead.

Khenyeza should have done better from a Jimmy Tau cross just after the break, but glanced his header well wide of the post with not a defender in sight, while Darrel Smith went just wide at the other end with a shot from outside the box.

But an excellent through-ball for Khenyeza on 67 minutes saw the striker round the on-rushing Walters, and coolly side-foot home to double Chiefs’ advantage.

Thuso Phala almost added a third five minutes from time when his rocket shot was well-saved by Walters.

next season we need Continuity n to add on a few players. whn chiefs is on song we r unstopable but whn the chips r down we don't hav any1(match winner) who can win the match by himself n thts where we r lacking...i'm so happy tht sunflower wil not be involved in the next champ league, i mean all they do is to create hype tht this time they r goin to win it n it so happens tht they always lose...now tht our CAF suspension is over we r goin for the league honours next season so tht we can be involved in the champs league...

No offence guys, can people post some analysis of the game or the players here? Talk football. Anyway, that's not my place.

It is finally good to see the team stringing a set of wins together. My view of Muhsin is that he likes speedy play and as a result the players who approximate that philosophy are generally inefficient players. Mathebula, Phala, Tshabalala and Kaizer Jnr. These guys loose the ball very cheaply and can't stand their ground against physical players. Like someone said above, I still don't see us competing against aggressive/ sides. On this note, one needs to look at Sundowns players for the nice balance between technique and physique. Well as one can expect, they are not that speedy.

One thing I know for sure that Muhsin gets right is the defence. Yesterday I was never worried about conceding a goal. He has it figured out and there is a stable combination with excellent cover. Can someone tell that Nkambule boy that what he was doing won't get him anywhere. He is an idiot and he lost the ball unnecessarily. He should be reminded of the likes of Khanye, Malatsi, Pule/Mahlangu & the likes. KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. I just hope the technical staff don't let such idiocracy go unchecked.

Finally, if Muhsin can get the team to play to his philosophy of speed while being efficient with chances as well as keeping the ball a lot better that they are doing, KC will be unstoppable. The question is: Is it possible to have all the three (speed, efficiency and possession-keeping) in one team?

what achievements are u talking about. Dont count for the last couple of years only, sundowns were never formed on the year 2000.What about their 38 years. Besides there are 2 things that that make a team the biggest, success and a large fan base those things belong to chiefs dude.
