Supersport take step towards title

Supersport United have taken a giant step towards the 2007/08 Absa Premiership title with a convincing 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows at Super Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Matsatsantsa moved four points clear of Ajax Cape Town, who play city rivals Santos on Thursday evening, thanks to goals from Fikru Tefera and Katlego Mashego – his fifth in two matches.

The win means that if Ajax lose to Santos, Supersport will be crowned champions.

In truth, the home side were never in trouble in the match. Mashego created space for himself brilliantly in the box on 11 minutes, but his cross from the byline eluded Tefera six yards out, much to the disgust of coach Gavin Hunt.

But a comedy of errors in the Arrows defence allowed Tefera a clear run on goal on 19 minutes and his cool and decisive finish from the edge of the area gave the home side the lead.

Supersport felt they should have had a penalty just after the half-hour mark when Kevine Andzouana appeared to block Mashego, but referee Daniel Bennett waved play-on.

A poor throw-out from Andre Arendse almost gifted Vusumuzi Vilakazi a goal just before halftime, but the striker lifted his shot over the bar with the retreating Arendse helpless.

But Mashego continued his brilliant run of form on 57 minutes when he rifled home a shot from the edge of the area after a cushioned header from Daine Klate had set him up superbly.

Abia Nale should have pulled one back when he was put through on goal, but a lack of pace allowed Thabo September to get back and block his shot for a corner.

Elias Pelembe wasted a great chance to make it 3-0 when he received the ball with time and space and just the keeper to beat, but he inexplicably skewed his shot against a retreating defender and the ball ballooned over the bar.

And Mashego found himself in with a chance of a second when he tried to pick his spot from the angle, but saw his shot saved by Brendon Wardle.

JOMO - you played with the best players and coached by best coaches in the world in your time. Please get a good coach for your team today. Football has changed and you do not have enough time to keep up with it. Find someone who will think 24/7 about coaching Cosmos while you are perusing the financial statements of KFC/FormulaOne/Trucking company/Garage/SAFA/ etc. You must dedicate yourself to scouting raw talent in Malawi and rural areas of RSA. That is what you are really good at. There must be someone out there who can do a better job of coaching Cosmos than you can. Find him. Hi khensile.

Firstly, well done to the clever boys. Keep on dishing out those soccer lessons! You boys can definitely take the league if you continue with your form. Morton you deserved the man of the match. You really a workhorse and the fact that you not in Egypt is criminal!

Like I said, Tuks should have been promoted instead of Cosmos with their useless coach applying outdated tactics. If there is one coach that is overrated than it is this one. He should not even be considered for a technical position at Bafana.

My advise to Jomo is fire the coach. Stop being stingy and hire a decent coach and pay to get decent players! Your name has Mvela written all over it. Do something drastic now!

Like I said before, Cosmos should never have been promoted ahead of Tuks!, their coach is overrated and should be fired. He should never be considered for a technical position at Bafana as his tactics are outdated. Besides that he believes that noone can teach him anything, mr know it all is going back to Mvela, hahahaha.

To the clever boys, you can win the league, stay focused and sober and it is yours!
