Cosmos are relegated

Posted: 14 May 2008 Time: 17:41

Jomo Cosmos have been relegated to the National First Division following their 2-0 loss to Black Leopards at the Orkney Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Coupled with Thanda Royal Zulu FC’s 3-2 win over BidVest Wits, Ezenkosi are now four points adrift of second-bottom Leopards.

Myron Shongwe and Thabiso Hlalele scored for Lidoda Duvha, while Ezenkosi also saw striker Nkosinathi Nhleko red carded in the first half.

Leopards made the brighter start to the match and deservedly went ahead in the 18th minute when Shongwe scored with a diving header after David Makgale’s shot came back off the crossbar.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane looked the most enterprising of the Cosmos players, but unfortunately his teammates seemed to lack his urgency.

Cosmos were reduced to 10 men in the 41st minute when Nhleko received his marching orders following two consecutive studs-up tackles within seconds of each other.

The Ezenkosi received another setback seconds before the break when they found themselves two goals down after Hlalele scored with a low shot following a pass by Shongwe.

The score remained 2-0 at the break.

Although the hosts pushed men forward, Leopards held on for a crucial win that will see them avoid the automatic drop.

However, Lidoda Duvha could still have to fight to stay in the PSL via the National play-offs as they face Kaizer Chiefs in their final game of the season, while Cosmos take on Thanda Royal Zulu FC on Sunday.

Should Leopards beat Chiefs and Cosmos see off Amabhubesi, Leopards will remain in the Premiership, with Thanda going into the play-offs, along with three First Division teams.

Its up to the Limpopo mediocre team to go and get what they deserve in the playoffs. If they belong in the PSL(which I don't they do) they will survive. I will intercede if I have to, I want to see them out of PSL.

I think Jomo would bounch back and wish him and his team all the best when campaigning in the first division. We are going to loose rare skills from such a great man, humble guy who don't fear to say what he think. i will always admire his passion for sport, he wont stay down forever, watch the space.

Richos, your comments show me that you hate the guy. You are not the kind of people who understand the game. I am not impressed at all with your comments. Everyone can go down he do his best but was not enough for the 2007/8 season. It happen to the game of football, let me leave you with one simple lesson; in the game of football there are three things WIN, DRAW or LOOSE which everyone desire to win. It was unfortunate for MJOMANE this season as he didn't manage to win most games. I wish him to come back to PSL and his value to South African Football.
