Bidvest Wits beat Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 Cup

Posted: 9 August 2013 Time: 19:54

Two quick goals from Sibusiso Vilakazi and Gatenah Kedebe were enough for Bidvest Wits to send Bloemfontein Celtic crashing out of the 2013 MTN8 quarterfinals before Papy Faty’s knockout blow at the end of the match to make it 3-0.

The game got off to a dynamic start with Wits forcing Celtic to spend time in their own half defending, but it wasn’t long before the away side found their rhythm.

On the 13th minute Faty thought he had scored for Wits only for the match official to disallow the goal after spotting an infringement in the box.

However it wasn’t long before Wits broke the deadlock. On the 21st minute, Wolff struck a shot from distance and when Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb thought he had saved it, Vilakazi followed with a rebounded volley to make it 1-0.

The Clever Boys were growing in confidence and two minutes later they struck again when Kedebe received a ball inside box and calmly slotted past Tignyemb after a beautiful build up.

With Celtic giving the home side the space to attack, Wits forward Ryan Chapman almost made it 3-0 around the half hour mark when he was allowed to turn and shoot inside the box.

Just before half time Musa Nyatama wasted a glorious opportunity to pull his team back into the game. With only the keeper to beat inside the box, the 25 year old pulled his attempt wide.

A minute later a disorganised Celtic found themselves clearing Chapman’s attempt off the line.

Clinton Larsen’s side looked rejuvenated at the start of the second half with Vuyani Ntanga almost finding a goal, but the home side managed to weather the storm.

Right on the hour mark, the home side were reduced to ten men when Keamogetse Wolff was sent off for a second bookable offence. That did not dampen the Clever Boys’ spirit as they continued to attack.

Despite Phunya Sele Sele enjoying more ball possession after Wolff’s red card, nothing really materialised.

With Celtic pushing forward in search of a goal, Wits broke out and Faty delivered the knockout blow in the 92nd minute as he rounded Tignyemb to make it 3-0.

Chiefs made a smart decision by letting Nengomasha go. His time was up.

Good point Khosi Lady.
The way he conducted himself towards his release when VV was still around did not help him.

I believe that if he did not do what he did,he would still be part of the glamorous club.

But I miss him though

Wits will be dangerous this season, they are super aggresive and move the ball around with pace and presicion, quick to get foward and clinical in the oppsposing 18 area. Many are gonna feel the wrath of this team.

Bayern vs Borrusia M'Gladbach.

A player(Domingues) handles the ball in the 18 box,ref gives a penalty, ritefully so. Goalie saves(from Muller kick). On the rebound, same player who handled the ball goes for it,with Robben onto him and he handles the ball again. Ref ritefully gives another penalty(Alaba scores),and books him(yellow). Lol funny moment, havent seen anythng like that b4. But he shouldve been sent off coz both instances he handled the ball intentionally. So 1st time it shouldve been his 1st yellow, then 2nd yellow the 2nd time he handled. Lol stupid player Domingues.

I hear people complaining that we need to sign players. Yes we do need adequate cover across the pitch, but I doubt all these people campaigning for new signings have actually seen some of the players playing in the reserve league. Guys for how long are we gonna be stifling our own development nd waste cash on established players who might not even make the required impact? What happened to throwing genuine youngsters @ the deep end? Most of u only rely on the media about which players wud be suitable for a team u ought to know nd ironically the very same media still rates abo George Lebese nd Lucky Baloyi as youngsters. Last season Bobby got us highly experienced players nd the team is fairly stable. I would be very happy if instead of signing we actually promoted from within to cover the areas that need strengthening. Lorenzo Gordino - Sekgopela - Philani Cele - Tumelo Mashobane. Promote those 3 lads nd were covered in defence, CM nd out wide on the left nd rotate the strikers coz Musona should be played as an out nd out striker. Nd let Parker nd Nkosi slug it out for the #10 role; Rusike' Josta nd Masango at. RW; Lebese' Shabba nd Mashobane LW; Yeye nd Baloyi as Box 2 Box CM; nd Cele nd Katsande as DM. @ the bek we have Gould, Masha, Tower nd Gordinho CB; Gaxa Moleko nd Sekgopela for): Tsepo' Keegan, Jimmy nd Siphiwe at LB; Itu, Brilliant nd the Beanpole Riaad as GK. Hell Ritchie used to play DM @ Swallows so he can be shifted there as well. Buying isn't always the answer. If we all knew our team then we wudnt even be flinching about new players

A very matured comment right there, and its awkward because the very same fans who are complaining did the same thing last season after the Sundowns game when Baxter announced that he is content with a 28 man squad. They were the 1st once to celebrate when he won us the double, I think a little of patience & open mindness will do for some of our fellow Khosi members

Ey Hlaba Khosi lam, a lotta glory hunters will suddenly creep from the woodwork uzobona. Those are the idiots who don't know the essence of a Kaizer Chiefs. Who only started supporting Chiefs during the Khune nd Shabba era. Ask them how the legendary DK, Brian Baloyi, Thabo Mooki, Jabu Mahlangu, hell even Itu Khune all came in2 prominence.

I wouldn't mind a youngster playing horribly in his first 5 games coz that's how he would learn. Rather then having an expensive player making the most costly of mistakes.

U r very correct champs, we must put our development into use, i wouldnt mind if a player lyk Mynhart cn be thrown 2 the deep end nd given a start in a PSL game, he will b surrounded by experiencd internationals e.g parker, shabba, yeye...nd he will learn alot

We are the Dream team, we hv the best squad in Mzansi...chopping nd changing players every season doesnt work it only kills our rhythm, Musona is the only playr we brought into the team nd datz enough

Barca, Bayern, Man U, Juve...even the other champs arwnd world football hv nt made huge changes 2 their squads..

Am-a-khosi 4 life!!
