Premier Soccer League match report SuperSport United Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 31 August 2013 Time: 17:34

SuperSport United kept their 100 percent record in the Premiership with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over champions Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday night.

The League leaders, with nine points from three games, prevailed via strikes from Man of the Match Enocent Mkhabela, Bennett Chenene and Bradley Grobler after Bernard Parker opened the scoring at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

In a cagey affair, Chiefs came close 18 minutes in but Bafana Bafana winger Siphiwe Tshabalala's rasping left-footed shot was parried to safety by goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

At the other end, former Moroka Swallows midfielder David Mathebula ballooned his long-range effort over 10 minutes later.

Soon after, Knowledge Musona earned his side a penalty when he fired the ball into the hand of Edwin Gyimah in the area.

Parker converted the spot-kick for his third goal of the season to put the Glamour Boys narrowly ahead at the recess.

The visitors threatened soon after the break, as Tshabalala's free-kick from the edge of the area was kept out by Williams.

United, however, replied with interest in the 55th minute, as Mkhabela thundered home a sublime touch by Mathebula  following Thabo September's long ball from the back.

Amakhosi nearly hit back in the 63rd minute but Williams pulled off a miracle stop to foil Musona from two yards out after Parker did well to tee up his striker partner.

The hosts, though, took the lead in the 70th minute through Chenene, who tapped in on the rebound after Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune blocked a powerful strike from Thuso Phala.

Grobler extended the advantage three minutes later from the spot after Bafana defender Siboniso Gaxa unwittingly clipped the heel of Chenene in the area.

Stuart Baxter's men were unable to find a way back, resulting in their first League loss of the campaign.

Its too easy for referees to give chimps a penalty but difficult to give penalty against. Remember how Tlou was brought down by the one legged cow,no penalty but midweek a slight touch on Musona is a penalty!!! Nx!!

@frank white (the extremist) 3-5-2 it is, really? ......i see a 8-2-1 formation here. Cowne is part of defence, the last line of it infact. Baloyi is a defensive holding midfielder (like mfeneyeye). Only 3 players are attack minded. Zebras are playing counter javelin, with the 2 wingbacks joining the 2 midfielders when on the counter, making it 3-5-2, MOMENTARILY, but then go back defending again. Mxm you are clueless , moerskond. WHITE RED AND BLACK, TILL CV CHEF PLAYS ATTACKING OPEN FOOTBALL.

The interpretation of the rules by the commentators are not accurate. The law says...'the hand must be in an unnatural position and THE HAND MUST MOVE TOWARDS THE BALL'

This was not the case with Gymar as the ball clearly moved towards his hand and the distance between the player who took the shot and Gymar was very small

Even Marumo contradicted himself when he said it was a penalty and yet disputes thathe should have been given a yellow card.

The reason he mentions why Gymar should not get yellow card is the very reason why this isnt a penalty

There was no intetion to handle the ball....dubious penalty. We had very few real penalties awarded last season....We should have gotten more but were robbed. If our leading goal scorer had 8 goals u cn imagine how many penalties Jali converted. The fact is no team in the psl benefit like Gayzer chimps. 2 soft penalties in 2 games that's Gayzer thiefs for u!!

You call this a penalty because it goes to zebras way! This is ridiculous indeed. Last season the very zebras had in many occasions benefitted from the similar incidents, whereby siboniso gaxa got off the hook when he handled the ball in the backyards and the penalties not given to the opponents because of the "ball to hand or hand to ball" rule. I don't buy the ssp analysts story here. Refs consistency is questionable. I don't care what the buffoons are going to say here. I say it as it is. I remain Ka Bo Yellow until zebras stops benefiting from the refs.
