PSL match report Mamelodi Sundowns Platinum Stars

Posted: 28 August 2013 Time: 21:29

Platinum Stars scored a late equaliser to hold a star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw at home on Wednesday evening.

Brazilians fans were relieved to see Lebohang Mokoena make his first appearance in almost a year, after a long lay-off after a hip injury. The last time ‘Cheeseboy’ played for Sundowns in an official match was in September 2012.

Sundowns looked to be on course for a second successive win at the start of the season, after Dove Wome put them ahead 13 minutes into the second half, but an 80th minute reply from Robert Ng’ambi saw Dikwena force a deserved draw.

Both sides created early chances from which they should have claimed the lead.

Wome drove a powerful low shot just wide of the target in the fourth minute, while Siphelele Mthembu clipped the outside of the woodwork at the opposite end of the field just a minute later.

Once the defences settled down, scoring opportunities were a lot harder to come by and it was no surprise that the half ended with the teams still deadlocked at 0-0.

Ng’ambi had the only other notable chance of the first half, finding himself in space on the left side of the penalty area in the 40th minute, but his shot was deflected wide of the near post for a corner-kick.

13 minutes into the second half the Brazilians opened the scoring thanks to a goalkeeping howler from Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Wome drove an effort on target from a free-kick, and the Stars keeper made a mess of what should have been a simple save, allowing the ball to skip off his hands and find the net.

With 10 minutes to play Stars got a deserved equaliser. Mthembu hit the woodwork for a second time, off a corner-kick, but the loose ball was put back into the danger area and Ng’ambi was able to outjump Alje Schut and direct a header home from almost on the goal-line.

I think its time to give credit where ever possible, i watched the game last nite between downdowns & Dikwena but to be honest the inclusion os og killer was not on, he looked clueless out of form you can easily see if a player is no longer happy at the team, Such a prolific striker to miss a clear chance something needs to be done,

People who tend to hate things they already know about are (surprise!) more disposed to hate things they have not yet come in contact with. Once a hater always a hater. KBY

Sundowns were pathetic last night. Even the goal was a gift. Endless passing with no real threat to the opposition. It's no different to how they played under Neeskens. Pitso didn't have a strategy. They asked him abt his strategy before the game. Instead he spoke for 5 mins abt Stars strategy like its his team. Yes it's early but they won't achieve anything this season. I'm sick of this & from now on my only team in the world is Real Madrid. I'm done with Sundowns.
