PSL match report Mamelodi Sundowns Platinum Stars

Posted: 28 August 2013 Time: 21:29

Platinum Stars scored a late equaliser to hold a star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw at home on Wednesday evening.

Brazilians fans were relieved to see Lebohang Mokoena make his first appearance in almost a year, after a long lay-off after a hip injury. The last time ‘Cheeseboy’ played for Sundowns in an official match was in September 2012.

Sundowns looked to be on course for a second successive win at the start of the season, after Dove Wome put them ahead 13 minutes into the second half, but an 80th minute reply from Robert Ng’ambi saw Dikwena force a deserved draw.

Both sides created early chances from which they should have claimed the lead.

Wome drove a powerful low shot just wide of the target in the fourth minute, while Siphelele Mthembu clipped the outside of the woodwork at the opposite end of the field just a minute later.

Once the defences settled down, scoring opportunities were a lot harder to come by and it was no surprise that the half ended with the teams still deadlocked at 0-0.

Ng’ambi had the only other notable chance of the first half, finding himself in space on the left side of the penalty area in the 40th minute, but his shot was deflected wide of the near post for a corner-kick.

13 minutes into the second half the Brazilians opened the scoring thanks to a goalkeeping howler from Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Wome drove an effort on target from a free-kick, and the Stars keeper made a mess of what should have been a simple save, allowing the ball to skip off his hands and find the net.

With 10 minutes to play Stars got a deserved equaliser. Mthembu hit the woodwork for a second time, off a corner-kick, but the loose ball was put back into the danger area and Ng’ambi was able to outjump Alje Schut and direct a header home from almost on the goal-line.

Ghosts we can rest easy for this season... I have now seen all our so-called competitors for the league title... Hai suka... we are competition-less the nanas...

Kamina Kawenaing is in a league of its own....

Iyooooo......listen to this dagga smoking son of a magosha. So your loss to relegation candidates Amazulu is a good pointer that your team will win the lig with ease. Even a mental hospital patient will make better sense than that.

I really don't understand what Pitso is trying to do with Downs. There was no strategy, identity & zeal. They play because they have to not because they want to win. I am really disappointed.

Hahahahahaahha......Chibuku and Marabastad fans have a soft spot for each other. And what binds them together is their common jealousy of Kaizer Chiefs's achievements. Phela Chiefs have won more titles than that of Pirates and Downs combined. And Chiefs have more supporters than both of them combined x 2.

Even Barcelona dont have 60 players on their books. Pitso is running out of ideas. The first coach to be fired this season. My money was on Robatlesa, but after what I saw I will put my head on the block. Sunflops will never win anything this season. Amen

@ T'zozo,

I do not have a soft spot for Down but I am a football lover. With the resources they have, Downs should be doing well hence my disappointment.

I appreciated KC when VV was a coach, he just lacked players to win him games but they played brilliantly....go to the archives, you will see that but it did not neccessarilly mean that I had a soft spot for KC.

I'm really hoping for Sundowns to step it up... Teams that promote playing football must assist us The Dream Team in re-inventing the national team...

Sundowns must come to the party.... Motsepe must be hands-on & stop talking to his players with his boyish polished English... he needs some edge & ruffle them up kganyane...
