Kaizer Chiefs Moroka Swallows Premier Soccer League

Posted: 27 August 2013 Time: 18:54

Bernard Parker’s penalty cancelled out Lerato Chabangu’s opener as Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows played out to a 1-1 draw at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

The first half was nothing to write home about with chances being few and far between.

Swallows started off the better side and as early as the second minute, Dikgang Mabalane was allowed space on the right wing and put in a cross. Luvhengo Mungomeni almost scored with an acrobatic attempt, but Itumeleng Khune was alert to make the save.

In the 11th minute, Reneilwe Letsholonyane played a long pass and the Swallows defence was caught out as they failed to pick up Siboniso Gaxa. ‘Pa’ came one-on-one with Greg Etafia, but the latter made a vital block to deny Chiefs the lead.

Four minutes later George Lebese broke free down the left and found Gaxa in the box with a cross, but the defender miscued his attempt and the ball went out for a goal kick.

After this, both sides struggled to create any real opportunities and the match headed into halftime goalless. However, the game did come to life in the second half.

Stuart Baxter pulled off Lebese for Mandla Masango after the break, but it was still the Dube Birds that created the first chance of the half.

Chabangu played a great pass to Mabalane, who in turn moved the ball to Siyabonga Nomvete, who tried to curl the ball around Khune but his attempt went wide in the 51st minute.

Swallows took the lead in the 56th minute with a great finish from Chabangu. Mabalane put in the cross and ‘Ace’ did the rest with a neat finish with his left foot.

The lead didn’t last long, though. Knowledge Musona was put through on goal and as the Zimbabwean prepared to pull a trigger, Asavela Mbekile committed himself in the box and as Musona took a tumble, the referee pointed to the spot.

Bernard Parker stepped up and converted on the hour-mark.

Barely five minutes later, Musona was brought down on the edge of the box by Rudi Isaacs as he surged forward. The referee gave Chiefs a free-kick which Parker fluffed with a poor attempt that hit the wall.

In the 67th minute, Gaxa cut in from the right but instead of shooting at goal, he tried to find a teammate. However, his pass was wayward and Swallows survived to fight on.

Then it was the Khune/Chabangu show for the next few minutes, with the dreadlocked midfielder having two free-kicks saved by the Bafana Bafana captain – crucial saves that earned him the Man of the Match award in the end.

Both teams had a couple of chances to win the match, but in the end a draw was a true reflection of the 90 minutes.

I don't think KC will make it this season. My sympathies are in order for my collegues at KC, they better resign themselves to the knowledge that they are gonna be laughing stock this season. They better teach their coach that signing playing 6 defenders in a team will turn out to be very suicidal at the end of the day.

Supersport is going to sodomise them on Saturday, Niang will dominate those 2 COWERS and expose Hlokoloza in the process, Mathebula is going to expose Lemfenenyane not to talk of Chenene cruising on the CowGaxa freeway, as we thwart Zebralek in Egypt.

Khozi just to clearify something I witnessed even last year fnb or soccer city is not our home ground. We only get good support there when we play pirates apart from that we are supported well in all our away games. history suggest that chiefs playing away is like playing at home.

someone nicely said it that passion for the game is gone in joburg. People want free tickets to go to the stadia they are just spoilt for choice go monate thata gauteng. People prefer to spent money ko royal or chesa nyama not the stadia.

Based on the above and also the fact that one of these days swallows will beat us I am happy with a point. This team swallows they have beaten everyone except us in the last three years so clearly that will not continue forever.

So much tripe being commented on here. Quite shocking frankly.

Let me start with all the so called Chiefs fans busy panicking and criticizing the coach: Y'ALL ARE NOT SUPPORTERS OR FANS BUT MERELY GLORY HUNTERS AND GLORY HUNTERS NEVER LAST THAT MUCH.

To the opposition fans already writing our orbituary, gud on u. At least were giving y'all something to smile about.

Back to the game. We played well yesterday especially in the second half. But it's high time we stopped being a 45 minute team and play with the same intensity for the entire game. Some tough decisions are needed from the technical team, coz they are not aiding the situation by not rotating the squad this early in the season. Loss of form and complacency has already crept in and the sooner some players are brought back to earth the better. It's not that we have a bad squad, just that the guys have been camping in their comfort zones.

Yes we need players but signing in January will make gud financial sense and also help the team for the final push for the title and also the comemencement of our African safari.

I would really like to urge all the die hards not to stop rallying behind the team. This is our rough patch and we will bounce back. These are the same guys who brought us joy just 3 months ago, they can't suddenly be bad players overnight.

Lets rally behind then and they will bounce back. We're just 4 games into the season. There's a lot of football still to be played

During yesterday's gameSiyabonga Nomvete takes long to pass the ball to others especially when on the left wing. On 3 occassions he should have made passes to the centre and right wing where his other teammates were in better areas to score goals. The technical team should make him realise an early forward pass to teammates is important when counter attacking. Players should realise that they allow the other team to close space if they delay passes, and can lead to their teammates being caught offside.
