PSL match report: Orlando Pirates lose to AmaZulu

Posted: 8 August 2013 Time: 21:04

A Bongani Ndulula strike was enough to give AmaZulu their first away win over Orlando Pirates in 20 years in their opening match of the 2013/14 League season.

Ndulula scored against his own team in the first half, after a great solo run, to give Usuthu the three points, while visiting goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe put in a Man of the Match performance.

The first chance of the match fell to new Bucs signing Kermit Erasmus, who forced Mathibe into a save in only the third minute.

With the home team pressing tirelessly, an unmarked Happy Jele should have headed home in the 13th minute after a teasing cross from William Twala from the right flank, but he failed to convert.

Another disappointing finish followed for Hele around the half hour mark as he watch a shot go over the bar.

With Bucs going forward in numbers, Usuthu got a chance to break and Ndulula danced past two Pirates defenders with ease before a stunning finish.

Bucs could have levelled two minutes before half-time when Erasmus hit a shot slightly off target after a Sifiso Myeni free-kick.

After Pirates’ early dominance, AmaZulu slowly settled into the game but their neat passing was fruitless as they struggled to break down the Pirates defence.

Erasmus tried a number of close-range efforts in the second half, but none could beat Mathibe.

With 25 minutes to play another chance went begging for Pirates when the ball fell kindly for Matlaba at the edge of the box, but he pulled his shot across the face of the goal.

Towards the end of the match Andile Jali had a chance skewed the ball over the bar.

The last chance fell to Matlaba, but it was not to be as he was denied again by Mathibe.

U know ur stupidity cannot be comprehended. Ur indeed an empty vessel who adds no value whatsoever on this blog.

How is it a bad thing that Chiefs haven't signed any of the players the media claimed they are interested in? So if something is written in the media without any official comment from Chiefs or the player in question u take it as being factual? Wow...

Just in case u haven't noticed, we have a great team capable of challenging again nd we DONT HAVE TO SIGN just for the sake of signing like the moegoes @ Chloorkop.

Please do the rest of us a favor nd get a brain.

as I said before the game, I was worried about Usuthu coach than anything else, the guy is good, and in SA when you are good, and you say that you are, people like Dr Khoza have a problem, reason, with all their achievements Khoza has remained the most simple and humble guy in SA! they however need to learn to embrace their opposites! and the soon Khoza realize that RDS does not take his job serious, and he's arrogant, all the games that he lost as a Pirates coach was due to his lack of planning for the other team and not knowing the strengths of the team coach he'll play against! RDS will not win a domestic cup at OP!

When we say G-string is weak, they say we are jealous. Pirates middlefield will always enjoy possession because they pass the ball backwards and sideways without threatening the opposition. All the teams are aware of that and they let pirates pass the ball in their own half. I still repeat, grandpa manyisa and jali are similar in style unless one of them is converted to a more advanced role of a creative midfielder. As things stand, they will always enjoy possession, creating the false hope that they are the best. Pirates can have the best striker but fail to score goals because there is no creative player. Piierats is one dimensional, they rely on wing play and if the wingers are closed down, they dont change the pattern.

Wits re-deployed R. Desa cos he was said to be mentally unstable, his wife also confessed to that in a sworn statement but when Iron Dudu hired him all the G-string fans were singing his praises. It is clear that Kaizer snr still has a lot of work to do in terms of teaching Khoza how to run a team. He can come to Naturena, together with his entire administration, for free tutorials. If the boardroom at Naturena is not big enough, cos clearly they can fill a train, will use KC official training ground.

This is evidenced by abo Mbele requesting the media to give them attention and not forgetting Lekwati who was on his knees requesting fans to come watch their game.

Can I just explain something to those who are busy comparing the CCL with the PSL ahh come on guys I thought you were better then that....in the PSL clubs see each other play week in week out and they know how to plan for the teams they facing, having said that, credit to Amazulu for the win and following their game plan, plus Mathibe shame haaa he deserved his Man Of the Match award...Orlando Pirates were just unlucky in front of goal ay....let's proceed, in the CCL, the teams there don't know much about each other because they not used to each others style of play, they only investigate and get clips of each other once they know the teams are facing each other...so guys please don't compare this Amazulu game to the one of Al Ahly and conclude that the CCL is not as tough as its made out to be....okay, positives should be taken out of Orlando Pirates match yesterday, we played well, created lots of chances and showed a lot of character and a "never say die attitude" by trying their luck to the very end...don't call for RDS's head just yet guys please, let's wait rather till we clinch the CCL or maybe and just maybe be eliminated then we can start sending our messages across that he is not Orlando Pirates material!!!Don't give up just yet Mabhakaniya please
