PSL match report: Orlando Pirates beat Black Leopards 4-1

Posted: 15 May 2013 Time: 21:26

Black Leopards face either relegation or the play-offs, after being thumped 4-1 by Orlando Pirates on Wednesday night.

Rodney Ramagalela opened the scoring for Leopards but Pirates came back, with Tlou Segolela equalising, a brace from Ndumiso Mabena and the clincher from Oupa Manyisa.

Leopards got off to a flying start, when Ramagalela sent the ball into the roof of the net from outside the box inside four minutes.

But just four minutes later Bucs were back on level terms, when Manyisa played a superb diagonal pass into the box for Segolela to nudge past the onrushing Azwindini Maphaha.

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute, when Mabena finished with a first time shot at the near post, off a low cross from Mpho Makola.

Maphaha pulled off two great saves to keep scores level, tipping Khetowakhe Masuku’s effort over the crossbar in the 22nd minute, and denying him again six minutes later.

Ramagalela used his strength to get past Ayanda Gcaba in the 31st minute before firing a low shot, but Brighton Mhlongo, who had a great game on debut, dived to his right to keep the ball out.

The Buccaneers increased their lead two minutes later from a free-kick. Manyisa releasing Makola on the left, who crossed the ball for Mabena to finish from the centre of the penalty area.

Lidoda Duvha almost replied just before half-time but Mongezi Bobe was denied by another good save from Mhlongo before Ramagalela blazed the rebound over the crossbar.

The second half was more of the same with the Buccaneers doing most of the attacking.

Rooi Mahamutsa should have added a fourth goal on the hour mark, but after meeting a cross from Masuku he sent his header wide from close range.

Bucs wrapped the game up 20 minutes from time, when Manyisa collected a neat backheel from Mabena before placing the ball past Maphaha from just inside the box to seal a comfortable win.

With one game to play, Leopards stay bottom of the log on 23 points, with Chippa just above them on 25. Ajax Cape Town are third from bottom, on 28 points, and could still be in trouble if they lose their final match and the Chilli Boys win. Lidoda Duvha, however, cannot avoid either last place (automatic relegation) or second last (promotion/relegation play-offs).

Why the fuss about this win. Black are dead and buried.

But I guess congratulations are in order for my noisy neighbor. For peaking at the right time after being in slumber land. well done.

Glory reclaimed.

Dis Masuku's antics make up for your disappointment of NOT winning the lig ? If so enjoy that while we enjoy being champions of the lig.

Hehehe.... Can anyone say they didn't enjoy what Masuku was doing...?

South African football 101...!
My KING... I know you enjoyed that...! Hehehe...

Fantastic...! Masuku has secured a 5 year contract from Pirates.

Sure Bhakaniya, Bereza was mesmerizing those Leopards guys, he was on a class of his own,,I like the fact that he was taking them on,,opening them up with his skills,,so his dribbling was not just for fun nje,,it was actually benefitting the team,,he might have given 2 or 3 passes away,,but I like the confidence he played with..Bibo is starting to marshall that midfield as well, Ace showed what he can do when he is on top form though he is not there yet,,so next season we should reclaim what is rightfully ours,,,
Es waar Bra Ma-Eddie...

The team & also the supporters got full value from his antics... outrageously fun...!

I can go as far as saying that I wouldn't mind if we don't win another game if I can see those things week-in-week out... but that won't happen cause that sort of football in my opinion is winning football, it confuses defenders to h.ell... defenders lose concentration not knowing how to deal with an individual who plays in that skillful manner, thus causing oppositions to lose shape & concede goals...

The sooner we accept as South Africans that which we witnessed yesterday is our greatest strength the sooner we will conquer the world & refill those stadium...

Bhereza was fantastic...!

Pirates failed to defend their domestic trophies this season I agree. But come on guys? It was not exciting anymore? We have to loose some and win some, Zebra's are celebrating like there is no tomorrow, I doubt if Pirates was going to celebrate like that? We did that back in 2010. How about being one of the best 8 teams in Africa? For a minute I thought leopards were playing against bayern munich yesterday, forget bwt Leopards form/ Pirates were non winning z well. Congratulations to Zebras, m worried this cry babies will neva represent us in champions league, da last time they were there, the got the beating of their lives, like Bafana Bafana, SA is not going to be well represented. They must change ze zebra like kit, it has been very disturbing for da past 2 seasons *phew*
