Kaizer Chiefs through to Nedbank Cup Final after beating United FC

Posted: 4 May 2013 Time: 22:13

Kaizer Chiefs booked their place in the 2013 Nedbank Cup Final with a 2-1 win over a spirited United FC side at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Premiership leaders stayed on course to win the double this season thanks to first half goals from Lehlohonolo Majoro and George Lebese. United FC’s goal was scored from the penalty spot by Walter Maponyane.

United FC attempted to unsettle Amakhosi early on but instead conceded a goal in the fifth minute of the match.

Bernard Parker got on the end of a great through ball over the top of the Vultures’ defence from Siphiwe Tshabalala before squaring the ball to Majoro who tapped in from close range.

Amakhosi extended their lead 19 minutes later when Majoro’s shot from just outside the area rattled the crossbar and the post before falling favourably for Lebese, who nodded home past Bongani Mpandle.

United nearly pulled one back in the 32nd minute, when Thabo Makgothi was disposessed brilliantly by Itumeleng Khune before Willard Katsande cleared a Siyabulela Shai effort off the line.

Chiefs deservedly went into the break two goals to the good. The Soweto giants created the better chances of the half despite United enjoying the lion’s share of the possession.

Majoro had a great opportunity to complete his brace in the 54th minute of the game, when he got on the end of a through ball from Parker but could not hit the target with only the keeper to beat.

Vultures captain Maponyane scored from the penalty spot in the 81st minute of the game after Tefu Mashamaite was adjudged to have pulled a United FC player’s shirt inside the area. Maponyane converted confidently from the spot to make for a high pressure final few minutes.

However, Amakhosi’s defence stood tall, and they will face either Platinum Stars or SuperSport United in the Final.

Dikwena and Matsatsantsa clash in Rustenburg on Wednesday.

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Zvasiya, Masilela, Katsande, Mashamaite, Letsholonyane (Nkosi 71), Tshabalala, Majoro, Lebese (Nkhatha 79), Parker

United FC: Mpandle, Ledwaba, Lichaba, Komane, Maponyane, Wambi (Madolo 67), Bereng, Shai, Mvelase (Mahlaba 82), Lekata, Makgothi (Makudubela 61)

Next game Chiefs must play ugly football and win the game and wrap up the league. Fatique is cripping up now. Worried about Shabba he runs out of ideas quickly when in possession i watched him in the last few games. Lets march on Makhosi Amahle ony three steps and we are home and dry.

You waste your time when comenting about the champions, meaning Orlando Pirates fc. They are the current champions and they are now too big a club for psl, We have set a std for psl teams to follow for 2 consecutive years, it seems no team will be able to reach that std.
We cant even talk about the star above the clubs badge, that one is a mountain to climb to each and every south african club. Congratulation to chiefs in advance, but dont celebrate yet, wait until the captain lift that cup, as for now you just wish and hope for the best

U guys forget we have far more better things to do with our energy. Like getting 3 points form the pta team. Winning here was far more important rather than trying so hard 2 out class this boys. What exactly was suppose 2 motivate khosi platers after scoring 2 easy gaols? I mean its a cup u don't want the goals u jst wanna go to thefinal and u playing minors. By the way pirates would hv been worse. May all the khosi family say. Igweeeee

This is what many experts call the business end of the season where physical and mental fatigue kicks in. We played a tough league game on Wednesday, drove for hrs back to Jozi on Thursday, had minorbtraining sessions yesterday and today we book a spot in the semis.
People that know football will know that u don't counter a possession football team by trying to mach them, you get the ball score and make sure you convert all chances presented...it could've been more but we squeezed out the result.

Positive-About 2 weeks til our next fixture and that should be enough recovery time for our boys.
Beautiful ball playing by United FC. Wishing you all the best for the NFD title.

Let's look at some algebraic analysis!!!

United FC always walloped Maluti FET 4-0.

Maluti masaccred Pierats by scoring 4 goals.

That means United FC could have walloped Pierats 8-0

I realy need 2 address de scourge dat has attacked some of our fellow khosis of late.

dey seem 2 have adopted de rats alien culture of questioning anything dat is hapenning on de field of play, guys these kids had nothing much 2 offer except knocking de ball in their own half, which was no harm 2 us.

if u a not satisfy wth hw our team play then u must consider joining de team dat wld give u results better than chiefs.4 de record ther is'nt such a team dis season.

Another thing u cnt expect those boys 2 run like 1st half of de season.dey are also beings, they are tiring too.

Mission accomplished! We have reached our destination! Now we just left with one game and 7mil is ours!

Majoro played well even though he missed couple of chances ,Lebese must pull up his socks ,he is scoring but his overall performance is still below par!
