Collins Mbesuma scored a brace as Orlando Pirates beat TP Mazembe in the first-leg of their last 16 CAF Champions League tie

Posted: 20 April 2013 Time: 22:26

Collins Mbesuma scored a brace as Orlando Pirates beat TP Mazembe 3-1 in the first-leg of their last 16 CAF Champions League tie at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Bucs got off to a perfect start when Nigerian midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo drew first blood in the second minute with a curling shot.

Mbesuma then missed an opportunity eight minutes later as his effort was parried away for a corner.

However, Mazembe showed they were not down and out as they drew level on the stroke of halftime through Kabangu Muloto in the 44th minute.

This was after a cross by Tresor Mputu for Samatta who headed across goal for Kabangu to supply the easy finish.

The two teams went for a break with the score at 1-1.

After the interval, Mbesuma got on the scoresheet in the 56th minute with a tap in after a cross from Khethowakhe Masuku to give Pirates a 2-1 lead.

Namibian international Rudolf Bester had a chance to get a third for Bucs, but fluffed the opportunity in a one-on-one situation in the 67th minute.

Pirates had the last say, though, as Mbesuma slotted a penalty to make it 3-1 at the death.

The Zambian international had been brought down by the keeper.

Orlando Pirates XI: Meyiwa, Jele, Phungwayo, Lekgwathi, Gcaba, Maselesa, Okonkwo, Segolela (Klate 83rd), Bester (Makola 77th), Masuku (Mabena 90th), Mbesuma

TP Mazembe XI: Kidiaba, Nkulukuta (Ndonga 27th), Kasusula, Himonde, Boateng, Kabangu, Adjei Nii (Sinkala 66th), Ilongo, Kalaba, Mputu (Asante 77th), Samatta

Congradulations Bucs, hope the return leg does u good

But this is what i was complaining about yesterday, they want us to rally behind SA teams but their reporting is bias,SSU played friday but the match was reported today lets have consistency Kickoff

And maybe we should also blame this media for overating this Mazembe coz Pirates was all over them, and maybe Dlisa should trust all his players and depending on 'trusted players' Jali and his friend Oupa are off form, blessing in disguise i say

Who is fooling who here? Are the players taking us for a ride? These players surprised me really. I was expecting a heavy defeat. All the players played their hearts out except for 1 or 2 but I won't mention their names now cause I don't want to spoil their night. Otherwise congrats Bucs B Team.

TP mazembe is the biggest team in africa...the only african team to have ever been in the Club world cup final...so this zebras think they can play africa?! Hah let me try then we will talk...yu can't play ACL with words but performance...nd money in the PSL does nt mean PSL is best interms of performance infact its one of the poorest leagues in africa performance wise...so comparing the other leagues with NFD is hogwash argument...if it ws that good "the pls" why only 1 team playing? Why only 1 team always representing during the years mind yu pirates hv been in group stages a few times nd twice in the semi finals ...so this is our territory so shut up nd go win the league...we showed u how that is done twice I mean how dump can u be? We tried givin u the treble but then those shoes were to big #to_the_kc_fans

u jus acknowledged on this article dat Mazembe wnt beat Pirates n dat Pirates played wth their second string team....u know wat? I dnt engage moffies who contradicts themselves worse on de same article

if nathan sinkala fails to outplay masalesa, how is he gona outplay the roaring Jali in de middle?

can those tp mazembe sisters deal wth the atacking flair of ace manyisa?

If mputu fails to bridge Gcaba, can he surely bridge the great chinese wall in Intsimbi?

If Kidiaba fails to catch tap ins, how wil he deal wth Chinyama's rockets?

Mazembe does not match us pound for pound.....rememba we stil hve Benny, they unleashed all their weapons that failed against our second stream team.

Pirates is de best, bow down Salaminah, Lol

DRC is ranked very low on the FIFA rankings this tells the whole story about the so-called Africa's giants. European Teams also don't take this so-called club world serious like their own EUFA. So it is not a big deal that TP Mazembe reached the final of Club world cup because even Maluti Fly-by night can do the same.

Prize money of FIFA Club world cup:

Prize money Winner US$5 million
Runner-up US$4 million
Third place US$2.5 million
Fourth place US$2 million
Fifth place US$1.5 million
Sixth place US$1 million
Seventh place US$0.5 million

This is peanuts of EUFA standards. It doesn't even pay salaries
