SuperSport United beat Maritzburg United in Nedbank Cup

Posted: 13 April 2013 Time: 16:53

SuperSport United are through to the Nedbank Cup semifinals after a 2-1 win against 10-man Maritzburg United.

Cuthbert Malajila scored early for Maritzburg, but George Maluleka equalised halfway through the first half before Mogogi Gabonamong scored the winner just before the break.

The home side played the entire second half with a man less following the sending off of fullback Rheece Evans on the stroke of half-time.

The opening goal came in the eighth minute as Dillon Sheppard delivered a pinpoint cross from the left for Malajila to nod home at the near post.

Kermit Erasmus nearly leveled matters in the 11th minute, only to send his shot straight at Shu-aib Walters, before Malajila saw his headed effort cleared by Mor Diouf nine minutes later.

SuperSport scored the equaliser in the 22nd minute when Sameegh Doutie collected a loose ball on the right before squaring the ball towards the far post for Maluleka to beat Walters with a low finish after his initial effort was blocked by Mohamed Awal.

Both sides then had chances to edge ahead but Erasmus volleyed wide in the 27th minute, while Buckley saw his shot pushed wide by Ronwen Williams four minutes later.

Then in the 37th minute Heinrich Isaacks had a golden opportunity to regain the lead for his side after controlling a cross from Sheppard, only to send his shot wide of the upright.

The home side were reduced to ten men in the 45th minute with Evans collecting his second yellow card for a tug on Erasmus.

SuperSport took full advantage as they took the lead moments later when Gabonamong headed an Erasmus freekick into the back of the net.

Maritzburg dominated possession after the break despite the numerical disadvantage, but failed to cause problems for Williams and his central defence.

SuperSport substitute Thabiso Nkoana had a clear sight of goal on two occasions after the hour mark, but he was denied by good goalkeeping from Walters.

Nkoana could have sealed the game in the 84th minute but he headed wide at the near post; however, SuperSport had already done enough to progress to the next stage.

My brother,my bloggers, pirates chiefs, stars or what ever team you support I am not trying to be funny with the point I am trying to raise.

I get disturbed to hear this Gavin Hunt the way he talk to his players calling them names, using words like fuc.k,bloody stupid,####

This players are not supposed to be treated this way
I stand to be corrected

I was also disturbed by what I heard.... Calling Nkoana Fcuken stupid on live television was really disturbing for me....If this is what made Nale Cry then I don't wish my son to play professional soccer.
