Kaizer Chiefs beat Bloemfontein Celtic in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday night

Posted: 13 April 2013 Time: 22:07

Kaizer Chiefs beat Bloemfontein Celtic in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash at the Free State Stadium on Saturday evening.

Chiefs started the game the brighter of the two sides as they looked to yet again silence a vocal Phunya Sele Sele crowd. Chiefs beat Celtic 3-0 at the same venue 13 days earlier in a League game.

Chiefs dominated the first 10 minutes of the encounter, keeping hold of possession and attacking the Phunya Sele Sele goal with pace. The Soweto giants though couldn’t find the killer ball into the area.

Despite Amakhosi’s early dominance, the home side created the first real chance of the match through Lennox Bacela in the 24th minute.

Joel Mogorosi’s low ball into the box was parried by Itumeleng Khune straight to Bacela but the forward only manage to direct his header way over the crossbar.

Bacela had another great chance 10 minutes later. Limbikani Mzsva played a brilliant ball into the striker but he could only manage to direct his effort straight at Khune from close range.

Celtic were slow out of the blocks but created the better chances of the first half.

The home side started the second stanza the better of the two sides, winning a corner straight from the kick-off as they looked to find an early goal.

It was the away side though who opened the scoring in the 57th minute.

Dominic Isaacs looked to clear a powerful Siphiwe Tshabalala corner kick but he could only manage to direct the ball into the back of his own net, although Lincoln Zvayisa got the last touch and was credited with the goal by the PSL.

Celtic pushed forward in search of the equaliser but they struggled to break down the stubborn Chiefs defence and were subsequently limited to long range efforts.

Second half substitute Ruzaigh Gamildien had a great opportunity to take the tie into extra time in the last minute of the game.

The midfielder met a ball from the left flank sweetly on the volley but Khune was up to the task to secure victory for his side.

Chiefs join SuperSport United in the last four of the competition after Matsatsantsa beat Maritzburg United 2-1 earlier today.

Bloemfontein Celtic: Tingyemb, Mahoa, Nthethe, Isaacs, Mzava, Lakay (Ntanga 84’), Arwuah, Mogorosi (Nyanda 75’), Madubanya (Gamildien 66’), Mutuma, Bacela

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Zvasiya, Mashamaite, Masilela, Katsande, Nkosi, Tshabalala, Majoro (53’ Nkhatha), Lebese, Parker

My brother,my bloggers, pirates chiefs, stars or what ever team you support I am not trying to be funny with the point I am trying to raise.

I get disturbed to hear this Gavin Hunt the way he talk to his players calling them names, using words like fuc.k,bloody stupid,####

This players are not supposed to be treated this way
I stand to be corrected

I was also disturbed by what I heard.... Calling Nkoana Fcuken stupid on live television was really disturbing for me....If this is what made Nale Cry then I don't wish my son to play professional soccer.

My brother I heard this guy live on television calling one of his players to move his fu.cken ess.I got disturbed and recalled one of the bloggers(Shovas) stated that Hunt has divided supersport in such a way that there are African players, south African black players, white players training separately and after this I tend to believe this is true

I wonder what the respective teams say about this because these can obviously be no secret.
