Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United draw 1-1

Posted: 3 April 2013 Time: 21:30

Maritzburg United held Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night, but Amakhosi maintain their seven-point lead atop the standings.

Mario Booysen’s goal early in the second half threw the cat amongst the pigeons, but Mulumowandau Mathoho equalised with 20 minutes to go to ensure a share of the spoils.

Bernard Parker had an opportunity to put Chiefs ahead as early as the seventh minute from a free-kick, but his goal-bound effort was comfortably saved by Shu-aib Walters.

Itumeleng Khune was called into action in the 15th minute, parrying Heinrich Isaacks’ deflected shot when he switched direction to push away the goal-bound effort.

The Bafana Bafana captain again kept the scores level three minutes later with a spectacular save to keep out Ruben Cloete’s long-range effort.

Maritzburg took the lead just after the break when Chiefs failed to clear the ball from a set-piece and the ball rebounded off Morgan Gould and towards the goalline. As the defender tried to clear the ball it fell into the path of Booysen, who slotted home from close range.

With about 20 minutes remaining the league leaders levelled matters from a corner-kick – Mathoho rising highest to power home a header beyond the reach of a back-peddling Walters.

There were a few half-chances towards the end of the game - including Cuthbert Malajila just missing a cross for a sure goal - but the two sides settled for a point which not only maintains Chiefs’ seven-point lead (thanks to Orlando Pirates drawing away to AmaZulu), but also win the Q3 award.

What a scrappy game......

Keegan Ricthie did not offer us anything......
Gaxa should make way for Moleko
Yeye needs to rest....Baloyi to step in
Parker should not play on the right wing....we are wasting his abilities.....he needs to be upfront.

The 5.4.1 formation is not needed in our next game......4.4.2 is needed

Good results for us.......

I think the problem is not the formation Khosi, but the application of certain players e.g Yeye. For the past two games now we havent been playing well. Katsande is out for the next game. Yeye should continue, hoping he has a better game.

IN OTHER HEADLINES: Angry gorillas fans threw missiles at their coach following disappointing draw against struggling Amazulu F.C, times are hard.

Back to business, I'm not really complacent with the lads performance, lack of communication at the back amounted to us conceding a useless goal. Hope the boys will re-group and come-out with blazing fire against Golden Arrows.

Yet another 7 points lead, a league title is within our reach with 6 games left to play.

Dladla and shabba on the wings, moleko mathoho masha and masilela at the back.. N ofcoz mzansis finest in goal... 6 games left.

Tonite's game was lost in the midfield, we needed creativity early on in the game, Maritzburg were content on sitting back, so I think Shabba was a little bit afraid of taking plyers on because he was intimidated in the first half. I believe against football playing teams like Arrows, Chiefs will win easy.

If pirates loose 4 points in their remaining 21 they loose the league to chiefs. Chiefs now need 10 points to be safe, pirates can only get to 65 now if they win all their matches and chiefs 69

Today it was an average performance. All our players were huffing and puffing including falling all over the pitch because of the wet grass. We have a daunting task waiting for us.

We now must shift our gear lever to 6. We can't afford to drop points if we want to achieve our target (Win the League by points not goal difference).

And yes i feel for you......................

It's cold outside Kaizer Chiefs F.C. It's either you're with us or against us.

Letsholonyane was just out of da game, if only he was pulled off at half-time and Shimane Dladla sloted right in the middle. Baxter should now change this formation, we should be mobile against Arrows if we hobour any ambitions of winning dat game.

It was Gould's fault, anyway just go and watch how comical Lekgwathi was in Amazulu's goal, he's standing on a goalline but he's raising an arm for an offside! Lol!
