Nigeria drew 1-1 with Namibia in their 2014 World Cup qualifier on Wednesday night.

Nigeria missed a chance to become the first country to reach the final phase of 2014 World Cup qualifying when they could only draw 1-1 to Namibia on Wednesday night.

With victory over Kenya secured a week earlier, and Namibia in disarray following the resignation of coach Roger Palmgren barely 48 hours before the match, Nigeria were expected to secure the three points that would push them over the line.

Desperate for goals, Stephen Keshi spent his final training sessions working on shooting practice, and dropped striker Brown Ideye for Anthony Ujah who had looked lively when he came on against Kenya.

And it looked like the move had paid off when the Eagles created an opening within the opening minutes.

But just like in the Kenya game, that chance was fluffed. It set the tone for the rest of the game, with Ahmed Musa, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Anthiny Ujah and John Mikel Obi all spurning good opportunities.

And they were soon made to pay the price when substitute Deon Hotto volleyed past Vincent Enyeama to give the hosts a shock lead.

Not that it lasted for long. Defender Godfrey Oboabona restored parity soon after with a superbly curled free-kick.

Nigeria pushed for a winner, but towards the end, Keshi settled for the point by shoring up his midfield with Fegor Ogude.

The result means Nigeria stay two points clear of Malawi, and only need a result in their final group game at home to Malawi to reach the final phase of qualifying.

It also takes Nigeria to 18 games unbeaten under Stephen Keshi.

Game147 why do you and your band of Keshi supporters keep telling us that we should not tell Keshi who to invite? If Keshi and his boys were beating the crap out of their very low rated opponents, do you think anybody would care who plays. @ Blackpanther the reason we were throwing away so many chances in this important game was because BIG BOSS decided that boys should do a man's job. He left his trusted Akpala and Brown Ideye on the bench to start a rookie in a match that will qualify Nigeria for the next round. Question, ARE YOU LEARNER?

I am sick of the Keshi supporters who keep reminding us that Peter Odemwingie and Nsofor were there when we did not qualify for Afcon 2012. Well let me let you know some FACTS too, Mikel and Fengor Ogude were there too. So what is your point?

Yes Nigeria now has gone 18 games without defeat, Wow! but let's also mention another record. This is the first time in history that NAMIBIA got a draw against the Eagles. They had lost every game to us before now. Thanks Keshi for the record.

For those who keep telling us that There are no minnows in football anymore, tell me how Ivory Coast beat Gambia 3-0 and how Ghana went to Sudan to win 3-1. When you keep making these excuses for a mediocre coach, you get more mediocre performances. Slyman

@Slyman, Keshi is on the right track, simple. You can't force your theory down my throat. I back my argument with results and facts. Nigeria is on-top of the table with one game where they require only a draw. If SE records a disastrous outing at the Confed. Cup and fails to qualify for World, only then will your argument have a concrete foundation. You are however solely desposed to define what you mean by 'Keshi's band of supporters'.......which band of supporters are you ??? 'Atiliogwu' dance group ?? Lol.

@Slyman: I also miss Obinna N.! But Odemwingie is useless. Peter should be one of our best strikers the guy is better than Ujah and co. But But Peter Odemwingie isnt a role model and will only destroy ou team! So please leave that topic with Odemwingie.

Neverless I cant understand why Obinna, Emeramo and Lukeman are not in this team! But lets face the facts we cant invite every player. The fact that Nigeria have so many strikers, there will allways be some sad faces after our final 23squad is listed!

Eziekil or what is name is will also get his chance. But maybe he prefers to play for Belgium... Dont forget that Anichebe refused to play for us because of...

Nigeria will qualify for the next round trust me!

And please F.... this stupid Confed Cup it doesnt mean nothing to me. Its just a perfect opportunity to test new players... thats it!

@Phoenix, good to know that there are still people on this site who critique with unbiased mind n love of the game..... What Keshi fails to realise is that even the biggest among us can fall to ruin if we do not cautiously watch our steps and learn from the mistakes of others b4 us.

I sense a little ounce of pride in Keshi that is similar to what contributed to the fall of Siasia...and thats is knowing when to earn and own the loyalty of your core players..we have a team where 60% of the players are either untested or are not in the 5th percentile of the best playing talent this country can boast of...I mean the world cup is no joke, ask Onigbinde who chosen rookies to prosecute 2002 world cup and ended up with disaster without a single win, even though the handwriting was very clear on the wall. Siasia dropped Eyeama and other good players and ended trashing is own awesome reputation b4 the unforgiving Nigerian fans....

I guess what am saying is that Keshi should stand with his good players and stop trying to become another westahof so as to boast of bring up a new generation of stars and stick with what he has...dumping ike uche for instance for having a bad tournament dont do much for players confident and certainly dont make players play for their coaches, not when they know that the coach only view them as merchineries...meanwhile the same Uche is scoring goals with reckless abandon in spain second tier on the verge of promotion back to 1st tier...Anichebe will rather concentrate on club career cuz he felt he wasnt valued by the coaching crew...yet players like Ujah will play in the national team....

To be fair i dont see us surpassing the nations cup achievement in the next couple of years if we do not work harder....Keshi should please accept the fact that the Kanu, okocha, Finidi golden generation dont come every year....just make good of what we have at the moment and quit digging ur grave by playing lesser n lesser quality players inn the name of building a team.

My fear is that we will go bck to the circle of employing a coach few months to the world cup..Bora in 1998, Onigbinde in 2002, Berti vort in 2010....because at this rate with Keshi's growing unpopularity with NFF and cut and nail performance its hard to say he will not inherit the fate of Shuaibu, troussier..

Imagine a discipline eagle attack of osaze, Anichebe, moses, ike uche, emenike.....plus the hunger of the younger players in the team...we may not win championship but we would have paraded our best legs...

I mean well for Keshi and i hope he does well bt he has to learn to manage is team and players individually and quit trying to be the messiah that build another Golden generation of players in 2years...it took westahof 4 or 5yr, unfortunately Nigerians and even the world do not have patience to keep a coach for a long tenor unless he is winning and winning well as terrible as its sounds its the gospel truth..

so if Keshi wants to stick to experimenting with unrated players n consistently struggle with teams rated under 100 in the world he will always have my support, but he should understand that a coach is a good as his last match....and Keshi's last few matches has been everything but inspiring.... Let hope confederations cup brings us better fortune..

What results?
Nig vs Kenya 1-1
Kenya vs Nig 0-1
Nam vs Nig 1-1
Check this out Tahiti vs Nig 0-1 or 1-1. Are these results to be proud of? Now you are insinuating that getting a draw at home against Malawi is good enough! Haba! Slyman

Yes o, na today! Onye Egwu1. Lol

Those slim results still put Nigeria on-top, so they remain solid facts.

Sorry to tell you this but i prefer winning trophy than playin nice football with you so called best legs Odemwingie and Anichebe. Lets face facts: What did Odemwingie win with his club the season and what did Anichebe...? When we talk about Worldclass top players... Nigeria only has Mikel Obi, Moses, Musa, Emenike, Brown and Yobo. This are players who played Champions League or Euro League this are players who won the Cups their Leagues this are players who are scoring every weekend!

All this players are in Keshis plans or am i wrong? Ok Yobos exclusion is a bit harsh in my opinion because he played a very good season for his club and allways gave everything for Nigeria in the past! But when do want to start to build a team for the future? its 2013 in six months its 2014. We have to give guys like Ogbonna, Omero, Ujah and co. a chance plus confidence now today. I wass pissed off when I saw Ujah in the starting line up but he is our future we have to make use him!

You are a real genius! Anichebe said we wants a break! Obinna i dont know why Keshi dont like this guy? But do you think Obinna would have saved us 100% yesterday? Thesame goes for Lukeman Haruna...! Keshi must invite him Asap! And the other players are injured you genius...

Even without the guys you just mentioned we must be able to beat Namibia!
posted: 01:22 pm
Let the truth be told. If they played as expected , no one will lambast the coach. We are struggling with kenya, namibia, malawi and so on. hmm, i don't know o.

I think Keshi didnt took this game serious! Why else did he start Ujah?

I repeat: We Nigerians love money! I think this game was fixed to make cash! Its my theorie... Sorry

What most of you do not realise is that there is very little time left for Keshi to build a team for the World Cup if we qualify. Keshi is throwing away a precious opportunity by loading his bench with useless bench warmers when he should be trying to see how HARUNA, Ezekiel, Obinna and Anichebe fit into his team now. After the game in September, there are only 2 FIFA breaks to the World Cup.

When the injured players come back, it will be a whole new team. When can he blend in Moses, Emenike, Joel Obi, Kalu Uche, Nosa Igiebor, Gabriel Reuben and Sone Aluko. Keshi should blend in the best available now because time is of the essence. Slyman

Nigeria will never stop to amaze me; thats how they keep shouting OBafemi Martins! Obafemi Martlins!! and when Keshi gave him the chance we all witness him in the game against Kenya in calabar. Moral of the lesson is lets leave the coach to do his work but guess what? nigerians will still clamour for funny players to be given the chance even if keshi win the wc.

Talking about development and discovery of talent, Siasia capped Emenike though Emenike disappointed him against Guinee missing two glorious chances one on one.

Who convinced Moses to play for Nigeria and Anichebe? Siasia of course. Those three players check how they are performing now for club and country.

Keshi is a business man, he doesn't mind to keep playing Mba and the team perform badly UNTIL HE FINDS A GOOD BUYER FOR THE GUY. The same thing happened to Justice Christopher until Keshi sold him.

I know Keshi too well. Of course there is an excuse for failing at the confederations cup already=====INJURY TO OUR TOP STRIKERS and the fact that they were concentrating on the world cup qualifiers rather than the Confederations cup. Mind you In ALL COMPETITIONS THAT SIASIA PERTICIPATED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EGYPT 2009, HE REACHED THE FINALS. Only losing because of bad GOALKEEPERS.

I know they are injured.I just say that Emenike and Moses are ours most valuable players...and yes,Victor Obinna would score yesterday!

@Coache, Lol, my brother so Emenike missed two glorious chances ??? What about Osaze who missed three to four begging chances including the one he kicked a goal-bound opportunity backwards instead of forward ?? That useless Mba also scored two ( crucial ) goals which gave Nigeria Afcon after 19 years of been underachievers and 'Super Chiken'. Anyway, good-luck to una sha, mek una remain blessed.
