Bernard Parker, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Katlego Mashego score as Bafana win

Posted: 8 June 2013 Time: 15:18

Bafana Bafana picked up three crucial points in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers with an impressive 3-0 win against Central African Republic in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Bernard Parker, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Katlego Mashego were the goalscorers in a game which South Africa dominated for large parts, though the ‘hosts’ were not without their chances.

Tshabalala had an early shot flash wide, before Momi had two half-chances – neither of which he was able to capitalise on.

Bafana got the crucial opener on 21 minutes, and it was a beauty!

‘Shabba’ weighted an excellent through-ball which Parker got to just before the keeper, sliding the ball under his body before slotting into the empty net.

May Mahlangu fired just wide not long after, but the second goal did come – and again it was a brilliant move from the South Africans on 42 minutes.

Tshabalala played a one-two with Tokelo Rantie before Shabba ran into the area and expertly rounded the goalie and fired into the back of the net from a tight angle.

Despite the two-goal lead, Bafana were not prepared to rest on their laurels and Parker could have netted two more after the restart, but on both occasions he fired straight at the keeper.

Ricardo Nunes also tested the last line of defence with a free-kick, before the dangerous Momi put his considerable weight around to test the South Africans.

First he showed a poor touch after a cross found him totally unmarked on the six-yard box, allowing Itumeleng Khune to gather, before blasting a powerful volley well over the bar.

Bafana had the final say though, with substitute Mashego heading home from close-range after some excellent work down the left by Oupa Manyisa.

Ultimately, it was a comfortable enough win for the visitors, though they remain two points behind group leaders Ethiopia following their 2-1 win away to Botswana earlier in the day.

SA starting XI: Khune - Ngcongca, Mathoho, Nthethe, Nunes - Mahlangu (Ntshumayelo 80th), Furman, Letsholonyane, Tshabalala - Parker (Mashego 63rd) - Rantie (Manyisa 57th)

CAR starting XI: ezzoat; Yamissi, Kethevoama, Kossingou, Anzite, Momi, Keita, Zimbori, Lignanzi, Youga, Dertin

Make us proud boys... Next week will certainly be a real test of character! I have no doubt that we shall overcome all obstacles en route to the beautiful sites of Rio de Janeiro's favelas... There's no Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates here, only 23 selected South Africans.

A well played match.Gud perfomance especially from Parker,Tshabalala and Furman.

But let us be warned. Its going to be tough in Ethiopia.

The altitude and make no mistake they will be tempted at the very least to use every dirty trick in the book.Remember we r talking of Brazil here and they know a victory in that match will see them to the next stage.

So expect a Lubumbashi replay in Ethiopia

Congratulations Bafana Bafana , they killed our soldiers but we showed them football and good spirit and not their barbarism . Hey man , can someone tell May Mahlangu that teamwork wins games . This boy is selfish and always paly for himself . I was highly impressed with Oupa Manyisa . As a Khosi supporter , i feel oupa is wasted at the Gorrillas . Let us swap him with George Lebese
