Kaizer Chiefs beat Polokwane City to reach the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals

Posted: 16 March 2013 Time: 22:27

Kaizer Chiefs booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup as they defeated Polokwane City 2-0 via the boots of Sthembiso Ngcobo and Kingston Nkhatha on Saturday night.

Polokwane City were the first side to threaten to score in the match. Mashishi was ambitious when he tested Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune with a long-range effort from about 25-yards but Khune parried the goal-bound shot over for a corner.

Chiefs should have taken the lead in the 23rd minute through Kaizer Motaung Jnr. The striker received a lobbed ball in the box; with space and time on his side he sent his free header over the bar with the City keeper at his mercy.

Chiefs, however, took the lead in the 32nd minute through Ngcobo. The Limpopo outfit failed to clear a corner kick and then Siyabonga Nkosi capitalised by releasing a defence-splitting pass which Ngcobo calmly scored with a low shot to make it 1-0.

In the 48th minute Chiefs threatened to increase their lead when Ngcobo on the right flank pulled the ball back for Mandla Masanago, but the winger sent his shot just over the bar.

Chiefs doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Bernard Parker picked out Nkhatha at the near post and the striker, who had been on the field as a replacement for Ngcobo, scored with a low finish to end City’s hopes.

Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Mathoho, Mashamaite, Ritchie, Nkosi (Katsande 76’), Baloyi, Tshabalala, Ngcobo (Parker 68’), Motaung (Nkhatha 62’), Masango

Polokwane City: Mayala, Tema, Maselwa, Mngqibisa, Mkhabela, Mashini, Whitby (Mathibe 55’), Tlolane (Gwala 81’), Matlhobogwane (Mmotong 46’), Kanyenda, Gopane

@emzaaa wat wat..
If you are the smartest of all Chimps in the Zoo...I dread knowing the dumbest of the dumb. You did not answer a single question. The above statistics state that Pirates started winning trophies in 71...what about prior to that, when Kaizer Motaung won trophies with Pirates and was sent abroad by Pirates to fly the Black and White flag? What about trophies won by Chippa Moloi and Eric Sono (Tebogo and Jomo's fathers respectively? What about trophies won in the 60s, 50s, even 40s? For 7 decades Pirates has been winning trophies and wena you have the nerve to compare them with Chimps. Come on bra...maybe Mbhebheni Boy and Gucci Man can help you out here. Surely they're not as dumb as you!
There is Head to Head and there is Head to none, Calm down, it seems one is so emotional, its just a game, nothing more and nothing less.

@ Jack Sparrow,

Anyway who wants to know what happend before 1970. Khosi I think we are busy blogging with an old man here who was born in 1935, and I refuse to be rude to him. Madala you played football back in the day when the ball was made out of pigskin. Mr Gorillabreath Sparrow, I plead that you cease coomenting on KO. I am just worried the youngsters are going to be disrepectfull towards you. As for me you can carry on with your posts. I'm done. My point has been proven by Laaste Khosi's last comment...'who wants to know what happened before 1970'? Yet your team supporters claim to be reclaiming the glory. Glory achieved during apartheid and Bhaamjee era. You wanna talk resent history? Cool...let's talk recent history. In the last 40 years of Chiefs existence, how much have they made in title winning prize money? I know the Rothmans Cup was worth 1 million and you won it 3 times...cool. What? Absa? Cool.... Coca-Cola?...Cool. However, in just 2 seasons....Pirates has won 6 titles = 45 million i prize money. Yes! 2 seasons ( 2010/2011-2011/2012 ) Who wants to talk success post world cup era?

Scrappy win but a win nonetheless. PC played superbly well and held their own, they took shots and forced IK to do some work @ the posts. We couldnt even get in the rythemn of our usual football coz they closed down the spaces very well plus we lost the ball easily most of the time. Credit to the players and tech staff for a great showing. Thanx Khosi for Rising once more. As for Siya Nkosi, what u did was not cool and unprofessional. A public apology to the fans is xpected frm u bra. But good game and thanx.

I was patiently waiting for a redemption of the moronic Kaizer Chiefs supporter psyche, only to witness further delusional commentary. Must the 1965 SASL ( South African Soccer League)Title won by Moroka Swallows be discredited because Chiefs wasn't there? The most popular clubs in the 50s and 60s were Pirates and Swallows which were formed in 1937 and 1947 respectively. Between 1961 and 1966, the SASL was a formal league which included teams from Transvaal, Natal, The Cape, etc. Pirates won this league in 1961, 63, 66. And Yes! Trophies were won NOT cows as you earlier alluded. Should the 'half league' trophies included in Chimps' achievements be deemed null and void? What is half league? I've always maintained that Chiefs supporters are the least informed, the most ignorant of all soccer followers because they supported a team based on childish popularity. How many trophies did Kaizer win with Pirates between 1968-1971? I conclude that a decent, detailed and mature discussion cannot be held with a Gayz'R'Chicks supporter because we are cut from a different fabric. Supporting Pirates is a calling...ask Caiphus Semenya, Bra Hugh, Biko, Sexwale, Blade Nzimande, Malema, Letta Mbuli, Brenda Fassie (R.I.P), Dj Cleo, Robby Malinga, Jimmy Dludlu, Menzi Ngubane, Francois Pienaar (former Springboks captain)...infact ask Madiba. It's not by coincidence that we remain the only club in the Southern Hemisphere to have won The African Champs League, it's in our DNA to be the first in everything. We raise the S.A flag with pride, hence Pirates were the first to grant Kaizer his dream to raise the Black and White flag abroad!

Dude u are trying too hard. Even Orlando Pirates list their 1st professional trophy as a top 8 in 1972. Why are u forcing us to accept ameature football results? We are telling u that football was professionalized in1970 and national competitions and leagues were from that time. Don't come and tell us about Transvaal what what and backyard tournaments when even the club itself doesn't count that in its accolades because they know that football was for fun that time. Just accept that u have less trophies than chiefs and move on

RACISM in Europe is rife and its feet. Same can be said in SA especially Cape Town. In Cape Town RACISM is all over work place, universities (at CPUT a 20 year old white boy/Ken Sinclare was expelled for insulting blacks, while in Stellenbosh an Indian boy 1st year was nearly killed by SUID LANDERS/Right wing group for walking around with white boys).

RACISM my black bothers shifts from generation to generation. I wasn't suprised to see the same boy who was expelled at CPUT on newspapers yesterday for, Ken Sinclare of Plumstead in Cape Town called a black women a KAFFIR AND MORE her.

I get suprised by black people from up north who think blacks in Cape Town have dignity. The DA is brainwashing them, Cape Town is home to alot of RIGHT WING groups, SUIDLANDERS, AWB,CAPE PARTY etc..theyr all here and have young members who communicate online.
