Match report: Orlando Pirates beat Djabal Club in CAF Champions League second leg

Posted: 2 March 2013 Time: 15:56

Orlando Pirates beat Djabal Club 4-0 in their CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg tie in Comoros on Saturday.

Pirates thumped Djabal 5-0 in their first leg tie at Orlando Stadium, with Takesure Chinyama netting four, and upped the aggregate score to 9-0 today for an easy victory.

The match was played in searing heat, but Bucs came out of the blocks quickly, putting pressure on their hosts from the first minute.

They were rewarded just six minutes in, when Thulasiwe Mbuyane opened the scoring.

Just two minutes Mbuyane turned provider, when he turned in a cross for Ndumiso Mabena to hit home.

Half and hour in Mabena missed a clear opportunity to make it three, although the ball was bouncing al over the artificial pitch.

Frustration started to show in the Djabal players as the game headed for half-time, with both teams suffering in the heat.

Roger de Sa brought on Khethokwakhe Masuku for the second half as Bucs kept their dominance up.

10 minutes into the second 45, Takesure Chinyama made it three for the Buccaneers, but the intense heat slowed the game down.

Onyekachi Okonkwo added a fourth a few seconds from time as Pirates showed no intentions of sitting back.

Pirates will next play the winner between Mbabane Swallows and Zanaco FC of Zambia. Zanaco won that first leg tie 3-2, with the second leg to be played in Mbabane, Swaziland. The First Round, first leg matches take place on the weekend of March 15-17.

Orlando Pirates line-up: Meyiwa, Jele, Phungwayo, Gcaba, Lekgwathi, Ntshumayelo, Okonkwo, Segolela, Mbuyane, Mabena, Chinyama

Subs: Mhlongo, Nzunga, Masalesa, Bester, Jali, Makola, Masuku

This is life bafewthu & by extension football... this result is like eating a leaf of lettuce in a all-you-can-eat buffet, it does nothing to settle our weary hearts, our tears will dry on their own over time...

I'll just have to say thanks for what seems like a professional effort from our side... losing can easily become a habit, ask our neighbors about last season...

Hai Gorilla you don't dictate how kickoff runs its business, rather tell us how you fill after a hard fought win aginst Djabal considering what happened here at home, you can fool the islanders there but you can't fool the great citizens here at home- KC fans!

Mabena scoring, that tells you the quality of Djabal. Mabena is not scoring even at training 5 aside matches. This must be the eighth wonder of the world.

Shout out to Vinny...... aka Lord Vincent.

I'd like to shower this Champ with a Galaxy of gold medals for the observation & comments he made in the shortcomings of our technical team...

Your comment My Champ needs to find its way to the other 50% co-owners.... it's of Code Red importance My Champ...!

I found myself thinking about that comment all week... especially when the team landed in the Comoros; RDS then said he didn't know that they'll be playing on an artificial pitch....!?!?

Just goes to show the lack of seriousness RDS takes his responsibilities.. as the head he ought to be thinking about such things and conditions of our opponents away from home....

And had they gone for that Africa training camp during AFCON that The Ghost has been suggesting, he wouldn't be caught by "surprise"...

Had we been playing better opponents the artificial pitch would have proven a vital piece of info for the performance & subsequent results....

We can be defeated by negligence & mismanagement....

There is no need to be happy here.

Maluti could have won 36-0 on aggregate: here is ur proof

Agg 9-0:
We all know that for every one goal that Pierats scores Maluti scores 4. Therefore 9x4=36 goals

Pierats is a weak team they won't ever reach the standard of Maluti FEC College.
