Maritzburg United fight back to beat Orlando Pirates

Posted: 18 May 2013 Time: 17:14

A late Cuthbert Malajila strike gave Maritzburg United a dramatic 3-2 win away at Orlando Pirates on the final day of the 2012/13 season.

It took only 14 minutes for the first bit of drama in this match as Bucs midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo, called up to the Bafana Bafana squad yesterday, had to go off injured. He was replaced by Manti Moholo.

Despite the match starting rather slowly, it kicked into gear in the 18th minute when Tlou Segolela headed home a Happy Jele cross.

Bucs came close again when Khetho Masuku fired in a shot straight at Shuaib Walters, before Orlando Smeekes and Delron Buckley forced Senzo Meyiwa into saves.

Ndumiso Mabena wasted a good chance early in the second half when he shot to close to Walters, while Jele also missed a great chance to increase the lead.

And it proved costly when Heinrich Isaacks pounced on 58th minutes to fire in an equaliser for Maritzburg.

However, just two minutes later Bucs were back in front when Segolela found Masuku, who placed his shot past the goalie.

But then the drama…

Ryan de Jongh equalised for the visitors with four minutes, before Zimbabwean striker Malajila delivered the killer blow as he found the net in referee’s optional time.

The result sees Pirates finish a disappointing League campaign third, while Maritzburg end in 11th place.

Ramses gazi I saw your comment about not being done dealing with that subhuman mongrel. Ai mfana me I'm done. Lost precious hours ka Friday that I had to try and recover this morning.

I ask is it really worth it to deal with these animals? It's demeaning to even mention their names. We learn so much from from each other in our conversations that talking to that such idiots will only derail us. There are one or two of these animals that we can engage but the rest hai!

The difference here is that our primary objective on this forum is to have decent conversations. That is how we are groomed. We are studious hence we enjoy reading slightly longer comments and responding to them. We appreciate wit and intelligence. Talking sense is more natural to us.

Them on the other hand they are here to mainly sit all day and talk rubbish. I have always said its possible to have the power of speech but fail with that of conversation. That is to say its possible to talk all day but in the end say nothing. I sometimes read the stuff that these guys post here and think to myself how much more empty can a skull be! So does it make sense to talk to such people?

Today I spent the afternoon at the movies watching the new Leonardo DiCaprio movie called The Great Gatsby. I watched it because I really enjoyed the novel it is based on. Do these guys even have the mental capacity to read a decent novel? Can these guys walk into an art gallery and take in the impress of an oil painting? Can they even imbibe the scent of a truly beautiful and smart woman? Do they even know the feel of a well tailored suit? The answer to these and many more questions is NO. I don't know them personally but it's pretty obvious what we are dealing with here.

So I refuse to demean myself anymore and engage such freaks of nature. They truly are not worth my time. When you say they are beneath you in every way, I remix that by saying engaging such creatures is a lot like feeding strawberries to pigs.

Time and again Coach Baxter has
shown HUMILITY. He hasn't been
cocky nd big headed. He always
pushed the players. I remember after
the Amazulu thrashing, instead of
complimenting the team after a gud
comeback from the downs loss, he
lamented the missed opportunities
nd said we cudve scored 4 more
goals. He never let the players lose
sight of the main prize nd always
demanded the best.
He instilled a gud work ethic, but
most importantly he created a TEAM.
All the players wanted to play for
him. Guys would come off the bench
nd change games for us. His squad
management should be commended
as well and I must say its the very
1st time in as many years that a
coach doesn't blast his players in the
media. He always protected the
players.
The main thing we as supporters
should really learn from sir Bax is
PATIENCE. He's been patient with
Nkatha, Lebese nd was also patient
with Shabba when he was playing
toilet week in nd out. I know for a
fact that we'll be stronger come next
season, we'll make even better
signings nd will again challenge for
more honors
We are trully happy with u Coach
and next season should be easier as
he's now more aware of all aspects
of the local game.
Thank u coach for making us
CHAMPIONS again.

We need to rebuild now...as quick as possible. That's why we need a top class manager. Someone who is arrogant yet intellectually gifted; someone who will make bold decisions, and train the lads to play entertaining football; someone with good motivational skills.

Another thing which we need to do away is that certain players think they own Pirates. I never liked Ruud Krol's style of play but I admired him for taking Teko to the stands. What a bold decision Krol made. He showed Teko that he's not bigger than Pirates, but Pirates is a brand far beyond Teko.

Myeni will never reach his true potential if he continues to be an automatic selection in our starting XI. Against Real Madrid, people were surprised that Sir Alex left out Rooney. Then they saw he selected the best team until Nani was reckless and got the red card. Against Dourtmond, people were surprised that The Special One left out Cassilas. After the game they couldn't question his decision. Point is, the best coaches make bold decision and are not afraid to be criticised if the decision does not go in their favour. And in the process of making such bold decisions, you let the players whom you have chosen know that you trust them. You motivate them so that you may get the best performance out of them. I wonder how many times Mayambela was motivated and encouraged to play to the best of his ability as he did under Krol...

Another thing, we need reinforcements. I don't think we need to buy many defenders. Just one centre back should be enough, and maybe a right back and then we let Nzunga go. Gcaba should stay.

This site needs a fresh story now. I was hoping de Sa would've resigned or been fired by now

As usual a very good post. Like how you traverse the spectrum of football with examples to drive home your point. It's brilliant, incisive and insightful. With your permission, I'd lie to chip in with a point or two.

Different managers or coaches have different talents or strong points. Sir Alex Ferguson is very good at surprising his opponents with starting line ups. His line ups are hard to predict and even it's a surprise he'd bench Rooney for such a huge game, it's no shock because that is what he excels at. You can't match him in that regards. 90% of the time you can predict Jose Mourinho's starting XIs. The only thing he does is alter the tactics.

But what Jose excels in is adaptability. He's very confusing because he'll play 3 or 4 formations in one game. This season, I remember watching my beloved Real Madrid hammer Real Mallorca 5-2. In that match, defensive and tactical anarchy in the first half were replaced with fluid, stylish and beautiful football in the second as Mourinho delivered a tactical masterclass. It was sexy, it was moving, it was explosive as Mourinho went from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-3 to come back from being 2-1 down in the first half to wining 5-2. That game was just too brilliant as Mourinho adapted and destroyed the opposition. It was art, it was physics, it was chemistry and it was sheer genius.

And therein lies the problem. Exactly at what is Roger good at? Tactically he's weak, motivation wise he's awful, he's full of fear and lacks imagination. He can't man-manage his players. He can't adapt when there are injuries. It's so hard to think of positives when it comes to Roger. Be that as it may, he is not going anywhere so we have to live with it

Now if effectively means Irvin Khoza will not fight CAF any longer for two teams from the PSL, the winner and the runners up to compete in the CAF Championship. Just asking.
+++++++++++++++++++++++

Hehe chief why don't you celebrate your league triumph and leave Dr Khoza alone. For your information, the inclusion of a second team in the next edition of ACL will depend on the peformance of OPFC in the current campaign.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

No mfana I checked it out. I checked out the ranking system and how points are awarded.

According to the CAF rankings, South Africa has 10 points. Zimbabwe is the last team in that list of countries that enters two teams and that is because they have 17 points. A country above us is Ghana with 12 points.

If we win, nay, when we win this year's Champions League then CAF will award South Africa with 5 points. That will take us to 15 which falls short of Zimbabwe's 17 points by 2 points. South Africa stills needs two or three more years of going beyond the group stages if we are to ever get two teams registered for that competition.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Ola Bakaniya, it is too bad that our noisy neighbours won't accumulate enough points to add on the points gained by OPFC to open the second SA spot for the 2015 edition.

I don't see them surviving in Africa. I remember one Bakaniya saying that they won't even make it out of Lesotho alive. Excuses will be that " the prize money is small", "we don't have experience" and " Stuat Baxter must go".

That is why I think Dr Khoza should go all out in the Tranfer Market and get the best players avaible, to increase our chances of winning this trophy. He must bring in a quality coach and top players. Hopefully the new coach has been in SA for the past few months and has already targeted his players.

Up the Bucs
