Ajax Cape Town beat Kaizer Chiefs in League match

Posted: 1 May 2013 Time: 18:59

A brace from Lebogang Manyama and a goal from Mabhuti Khenyeza handed Kaizer Chiefs their second Premiership loss of the season on Wednesday as the Urban Warriors ran out 3-1 winners at a packed Cape Town Stadium.

Ajax, while not in the game in the opening half hour had the first shot on goal via Khama Billiat in the second minute, but Itumeleng Khune made a fine save to turn his 22-yard effort over the crossbar.

After that, however, it was all Chiefs and they should really have taken the lead in the 22nd minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala worked his way into the box and towards the left by-line before cutting the ball back for an unmarked George Lebese. The Chiefs man, though, squandered the chance as he fluffed his shot wide from a couple yards out.

Chiefs were stunned in the 35th minute as a long ball caught them unaware as Billiat latched onto the ball and then played a well-timed pass to Manyama who showed real class to chip a charging Khune, 1-0.

Chiefs went into the break trailing despite controlling the majority of the match.

The second 45 saw the Amakhosi with the lion’s share of possession, but they struggled to break down the Ajax defence in open play.

It took a well-worked set piece to see Chiefs draw level in the 78th minute when Tefu Mashamaite met a Siphiwe Tshabalala corner with a deadly header, 1-1.

Chiefs pressed for the winner, thereafter, but their joy was short lived as Manyama restored the home side’s lead three minutes from time.

The Ajax attacker grabbed his second goal of the game after heading home a right wing cross from six-yards out, 2-1.

Mabhuti Khenyeza added the icing on the cake and confirmed the result as he beat Khune in a one-on-one situation in the 92nd minute to make the score 3-1.

i think george lebese should sit the rest of the season out. Its tyme Baxter plays josta dladla against suppersport and UP just to ensure we win. He has experience,he is calm on the ball unlike lebese. Another thing is that yeye's lack of form has continued despite resting for two weeks. He needs to benched and fight for his place, he was way toooooo relaxed for my liking .its like he was smug knowing he could walk back in the starting lineup.baxter selected him based on sentiment. Now baxter has probably destroyed Nkosi's esteem . Eish! Mxm .itl be better if platinum draws or loses. Atleast no one at the top 3 got anything this week.

No need to beat about the bush, Baxter cost us by removing all midfielders. That is nonsense, u can't play with 4 strikers and no midfield, especially at 1-1.

It's the 2nd game in a row this coach gets tactics wrong, I am getting worried about him.... He does the same thing as rodger disaster and keeps the form and experienced players on the bench. Why did he bench Nkosi?, how many chances will Nkatha get? Why always Lebese and Dladla doesn't get a chance??

Anyway, it's ok, we will still win this league but I am very upset about loosing like ameatures...

Thank you Baxter for admiting to your mistake, after we equalised you should not have replaced Yeye any ways we are stil in the driving seat, time to regroup and play our normal game these long balls won't win us the championship, the very same long balls killed bucs izolo. I sense more drama to come but we will win this championchip
