Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars draw 0-0

Posted: 28 April 2013 Time: 16:53

The highly-anticipated top-of-the-table clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars failed to deliver as the two sides played out to a goalless draw.

Still, it's a point that takes Amakhosi ever closer to a first title since 2004/05 - they remain six points clear of second-placed Dikwena with just three matches remaining.

However, if third-placed Orlando Pirates win their game in hand the lead will be cut to just four points.

Chiefs started the brighter and had two early chances through Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker, but both shot wide.

But Stars have been playing some amazing football this season and almost scored a goal to match when Henrico Botes attempted a cheeky back-heel which came back off the woodwork.

Parker then headed wide for Tshabalala’s corner-kick before Kingston Nkhatha squandered a glorious opportunity when put through one-on-one with Siya Mpontshane.

Stars hit the woodwork again just before the break when Benson Mhlongo followed up after Brilliant Khuzwayo – deputising for the suspended Itumeleng Khune – did well to parry Mogakolodi Ngele’s free-kick.

The young goalkeeper was having a game to remember, producing a brilliant save from Mhlongo’s close-range header.

Chiefs had a few opportunities towards the end of the match as first substitute Matthew Rusike was denied by Mpontshane, before Siboniso Gaxa fired across the face of goal in the dying minutes.

Chiefs next face struggling Ajax in Cape Town on Wednesday, while Stars host Maritzburg United in Rustenburg.

That's an LD and gives M.A.K.A.K.A.N.E.Y.A an opportunity to win the lig. People made a lot of unnecessary noise but now they are left with an egg on their faces. Those were zebras. I want to see the 61 points they claim to get to win the lig. As much as I hate zebras I want M.A.K.A.K.A.N.E.Y.A. to win it. I see draw draw draw on their remaining games, lose will be a bonus to me. My team played kaak yesterday but Rats will console me.

I said the same abt experience two wems back and the coach today really blundered that was our game to win, we created better chances in the first the problem is we had a huge gap btwn our strikers and the midfiled because NKOSI dossnt have the engine to move around, hence the introduction of YEYE could have done us a great deal, and DLADLA for LEBESE if we want to win our next game we have to bench LEBESE and go with DLADLA and YEYE...

For the first time Baxter frustrated me, he should have introduced Yeye and Majoro for Nkosi and Nkatha. Nkosi was tired from the first half. But anyway a point is just not that bad.

We are still marching on.
