Orlando Pirates beat Bidvest Wits in a League clash on Saturday evening

Posted: 27 April 2013 Time: 20:03

A Sifiso Myeni goal deep inside stoppage time saw Orlando Pirates snatch a win at the death, as they defeated Bidvest Wits 1-0 in a League match at the Mbombela Stadium to keep their title hopes alive.

Wits dominated the majority of the game, but missed chances in front of goal proved costly as Pirates snatched a late win after they were denied a penalty in extra-time.

There were fears that another Bucs player was to be added to the long injury list when Mpho Makola suffered a heavy knock in the opening minutes of the game.

After receiving some medical attention Makola seemed fine to continue, much to relief of coach Roger De Sa.

Wits were playing some great football through the likes of Ryan Chapman, Mazikayise Mashaba and Bryce Moon, yet they still failed to break the deadlock by mid-way through the first-half.

Meyiwa got a finger to Papy Faty’s shot from outside the box to deny Wits from scoring.

Bryce Moon then wasted the perfect opportunity to put his side ahead just before the break, when he flashed his effort wide at the near post, following some fantastic one-touch passing across the face of goal by Wits.

Wits got the second half going by playing attacking football like they did in the first-half.

Even with all their possession and chances in front of goal, Wits poor in their finishing, but credit must also be given to Meyiwa, who pulled off several great saves.

In the 77th minute Makola wasted a chance in front of goal by hammering the ball straight at Baron.

Bucs were wrongly denied a penalty in the final stages of the game, after Ndumiso Mabela was brought down in the box.

Baron was injured in that challenge, with what looked like a broken leg, and he was replaced by Jethrin Barr, who was making his debut.

Pirates got their own back, however, as Sifiso Myeni came on and struck a ball into the back of the net following some scrappy defending to give his side the 1-0 win.

Anyone who understands football will have to agree that we missed the presence of Myeni and Benni

We looked better in attack and Myeni coming on we looked dangerous
Masuku was outsatnding
Okonkwo is not serious about his job
Pungwayo excellent job'

Jele still a suspect
Meyiwa can't deal with crosses
Gcaba too many mistakes but is improving

Anti-Zebra so champ when we win we give praise to the players for carring the team on their shoulders bt when the opposite happen RDS has to take full blame ne??
Mabakaniya cant we get over this double standards and give our undivided support to Orlando Pirates tuu...
=============================================================
SPot on Bhakaniya, i don't get this critism of RDS when we loose while its clear sometimes that GCABA and Meyiwa made blunders in the laast minute of the games....

How many coaches will still be number 2 on the log after losing the whole first eleven?
RDS has done well under the circumstances and people seem to forget how the travelling and playing in Africa is having an effect in the team...

i have been saying this, Refs in SA are so pathetic and something needs to be done because really all the teams out there are complaining not only Pirates.
regarding the Penalty yes it should have been the penalty because if the ref is saying there was no contact then how did the keeper( Baron get injured)

Congratulation boys, we don't play dead, no matter what the circumstances are. We have been unlucky to have half our team in injury, yet we still displayed character, both on the local league campaign and the big one, CAF African Champions League, still we stand, Up the Bucs. Losing is not one sided, theres injuries and suspensions, that is a fact, however we have displayed depth. Still we continue. Some will like to erase the double treble, even the media will like to forget that we are the only team that has ever won the Treble twice in succession, and the only team to have ever won double treble, much less a treblem. And we are the only team in South Africa with a star.

Pirates defence is leaking, Gcaba the main culprit and why Jele is always offensive mara? Your job is to defend, bcoz the more you go forward you leave the gap behind and unsettling your defenders who have to switch their positions. Guys take it easy do not skop die ball, ball possession is the key.

Once and always
