Match report: Moroka Swallows beat Mamelodi Sundowns in MTN8 semi-final second leg

Posted: 26 August 2012 Time: 16:53

Two goals from Lerato Chabangu and a third from Bennett Chenene inside 20 minutes against Mamelodi Sundowns sent Moroka Swallows through in the MTN8.

Chabangu's quick brace did the damage early on, while Chenene added the third to hand Swallows an early 3-0 advantage.

Modise scored with a fantastic free-kick in the 23rd minute, but Swallows held onto the two-goal advantage until injury time, when Mushekwi grabbed another.

The teams had played to a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Atteridgeville, and Swallows go through on a 5-6 aggregate.

Swallows will now face SuperSport United in the MTN8 Final on September 22, with the venue still to be determined.

Sundowns had the first good chance of the match inside five minutes, when Modise stepped up to take a free-kick from 30 metres. The Downs captain went for the cross, finding Lebohang Mokoena, whose header went straight to Greg Etafia.

Swallows edged into the game, and on 10 minutes Nomvete made a run down the right, finding Chabangu unmarked for the first goal.

Four minutes later Swallows had their second, as Nomvete again provided the cross for Chabangu, whose cool finish handed The Birds a 2-0 lead.

On 20 minutes Lefa Tsutsulupa made an enterprising run into the box, but his shot was blocked by Wayne Sandilands. Chenene was there to collect the rebound, however, and headed home for the third.

Three minutes later, Modise pulled one back with a free-kick into the top right corner.

10 minutes from half-time Tebogo Langerman almost added a second for Downs, but his free-kick, in a good position on the edge of the penalty area, flew over the crossbar.

Sandilands had to dive full length to deflect a shot from Chabangu 15 minutes from time, as the former Sundowns man searched for his hat-trick.

The Brazilians made a final push in the last 15 minutes of the game, and Mushekwi got their second in injury time, but it proved too little, too late.

So much for a 5 skipper team, mxm!

U were all on cloud 9 as soon Sunclowns eliminated us believing u were guaranteed a trophy...so why should we not bask in yo misery?! u're an average team with an average coach who were on form, now that yo ineptness has been exposed, u turn to cursing us & vandalising yo own facilities...grow out of that small team mentality u spineless rats!!

My team Downs is as good as dead. For as long as we have this idiot called Neskeens at the helm, we are doomed. We can not pride ourselves with a bunch of players who can not rise to the occasion as witnessed on Sunday, there's only 1 serious player in this team and that's Teko. The rest of the guys need a psychologist to work on their winning mentality.

I just can not imagine us making any impact with the kind of crap we played on wednesday and sunday.

I suspend my membership until this moron is fired.

Starting eleven was good but why Henyekane and Pelembe on the stands, their hearts were broken more than supporters. If Downs keep losing like that will never win anything and we as supporters will never go to stadium they will play alone like in Swaziland.

Coach if I was you I was going to play 2 league games then resign cause its clear players are not willing to win anything not listening to you.

The 4-3-2-1 is used by Barcelona and you were assistamt coach there, clearly even Jose the great one best coach they will fail at Sundowns cause of certain players who dont want to win and costi ng players like Teko.

Motsepe pay off all the players and get our development to play show them that you dont need failers like them.

110% correct Bra,under 20 will be better than this guys.mix them with Teko as he is the only hungry player.

Coach not really a problem but players have bad attitude which costing us a lot.3 games should have easily won in a row but no player i dont know what they think when they watch the vidios.I wish no one must be called in bafana bafana as they will take their attitude to national team.only teko deserve it he is running around and trying his best but the opponents are always stonger than him.

Under 20 viva-------viiiiiiiiiva
then old mutual must must be on the stands watch football from stand thats the only punishment they deserve

football is a very funny game..in the last 3 games sundowns played they drew ones to swallows and lost twice to swallows and chiefs in a row...pirates last 3 games they drew twice against supersport and lost ones again against supersport, didnt even score one goal in 3 games... chiefs lost ones and won twice..chiefs has 9 goals in 3 games, pirates has zero goals in 3 games... with all that being said, khosi for life baba.. we at chiefs are having a great time now... but we not gonna say we r the kings coz tables turn, this is football, the moral of the story is, never call chiefs an average team coz they lost 4 1 to sundowns yet you lost 3 0 to supersport... it means your also average moes...
