Match report: Moroka Swallows beat Mamelodi Sundowns in MTN8 semi-final second leg

Posted: 26 August 2012 Time: 16:53

Two goals from Lerato Chabangu and a third from Bennett Chenene inside 20 minutes against Mamelodi Sundowns sent Moroka Swallows through in the MTN8.

Chabangu's quick brace did the damage early on, while Chenene added the third to hand Swallows an early 3-0 advantage.

Modise scored with a fantastic free-kick in the 23rd minute, but Swallows held onto the two-goal advantage until injury time, when Mushekwi grabbed another.

The teams had played to a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Atteridgeville, and Swallows go through on a 5-6 aggregate.

Swallows will now face SuperSport United in the MTN8 Final on September 22, with the venue still to be determined.

Sundowns had the first good chance of the match inside five minutes, when Modise stepped up to take a free-kick from 30 metres. The Downs captain went for the cross, finding Lebohang Mokoena, whose header went straight to Greg Etafia.

Swallows edged into the game, and on 10 minutes Nomvete made a run down the right, finding Chabangu unmarked for the first goal.

Four minutes later Swallows had their second, as Nomvete again provided the cross for Chabangu, whose cool finish handed The Birds a 2-0 lead.

On 20 minutes Lefa Tsutsulupa made an enterprising run into the box, but his shot was blocked by Wayne Sandilands. Chenene was there to collect the rebound, however, and headed home for the third.

Three minutes later, Modise pulled one back with a free-kick into the top right corner.

10 minutes from half-time Tebogo Langerman almost added a second for Downs, but his free-kick, in a good position on the edge of the penalty area, flew over the crossbar.

Sandilands had to dive full length to deflect a shot from Chabangu 15 minutes from time, as the former Sundowns man searched for his hat-trick.

The Brazilians made a final push in the last 15 minutes of the game, and Mushekwi got their second in injury time, but it proved too little, too late.

I ate the humble pie woh, woh, woh Sundowns staff it up again now our coach Neeskens will now promise to win Telkom cup,the question should be "How on earth do you expert the team that fails to win the 8 team tournament and win the on the 16 teams tournament?" To me Neeskens is a failure he must go otherwise I see Sundowns going 6 games without the the win. Come 26 Sept where this coach will be relieved off his duties he would have lost to Maritzburg at home Sept 02 and away to Arrows on 15Sept.No man asinxoshe now before its too late. With him we are going nowhere together with Mr the Right-hand man kaMotsepe uTrot, Makhanya and Y Singh there are failing us they must resign all of them.

I dont buy the nonsense idea that says we have injuries. Who is injured that could have change the game? Thats nonsense. He sent Pelembe and Laffor to the stands and now he says we have injuries. The coach must not go because he will not go voluntarily. But must be fired. Thats it.

Please Mr Motsepe if you can 'nt fire Mr Trot just give the job of coaching he is the one who is buying all these players who acually do not bring any defference to the team. We had G Salami,L Mutizwa,S Okpako,S Sithole,T Ramokala last season did they add any value to the team, now we have W Arendse, two Ghanians and the Dutchman mark my words will they bring value to the team lets wait and see the clock is ticking. Where are young players like J Shongwe,T Zwane,S Ngubane look at Dino Ndlovu he was once in the books of Sundowns give Mr Trot the coaching job he buys us Sundowns players let him fail and he must come no where near the team again.

so Sundowns was given three mpama in less than 20 minutes

they wre emulating Chiefs, the trendsettas who wre mastabated in 23 minutes

Pirates made a 23 min record against chiefs, swallows broke it in less dan 20 min against Sundowns

Pirates wil broke swallows record in less dan 17 minutes against Amakgoshi
