PSL Match report: Mamelodi Sundowns draw with University of Pretoria

Posted: 17 April 2013 Time: 21:26

Mamelodi Sundowns failed to take full points at home again, with a 1-1 draw with Pretoria rivals University of Pretoria.

Richard Henyekane opened the scoring in the 51st minute before Bongani Zungu levelled 12 minutes later.

The Derby started in typical fashion, with the rivals afraid to give anything away, and both were limited to long-range efforts.

Thokozani Sekotlong, left unmarked just outside the area, had the first shot on target, but it was easily dealt with by Wayne Sandilands.

Henyekane had a good chance to take the lead on the half hour mark, when he found himself in acres of space inside the AmaTuks box, but he dragged his shot wide.

Wayne Arendse thought he had given his side the lead two minutes before the break, when he poked home after Washington Arubi spilled an Edward Manqele shot, but the offside flag was raised.

Henyekane opened the scoring six minutes after the break, after Manqele’s misdirected effort fell favourably for him, and he hit home from close range.

AmaTuks pulled level when Jabulani Shongwe’s failed clearance fell to the feet of dynamic midfielder Zungu, who made no mistake.

Mpho Maruping went close to handing Tuks the lead 20 minutes later, in his first appearance of the year, when he shook his defender before unleashing an effort that went inches wide of Sandilands’ right-hand post.

Both sides pushed forward in search of the winner, but the match ended 1-1.

The result means Sundowns stay in 11th while AmaTuks remain in ninth place.

Powerlines Muti still going strong. Wasting 24 goals in a cup match and failing to score sufficient goals in 24 matches... No Wonder Sweyts and Brazilito were Marikanad.

say that again ambrose, but we will come back, this happens to even the best in the world, bayer leverkusen is having the same problems as us, borussia dortmund had a long dry spell after they won the champions league, liverpool still now havent recaptured their former glory.

Realisticly if sundowns can learn then they can be on way to recovery, the best place will be the model of borussia dortmund, there they made stars and they bougth a few players that they thought will be good for their system they play eg kagawa, likes of rosicky, most importantly development was key to them, likes of gotze, kehl to name a few came out of their development system.
