Black Leopards beat Ajax cape Town in Polokwane

Posted: 16 April 2013 Time: 21:20

Black Leopards got a crucial three points in their battle against relegation following a dramatic 2-1 win against fellow strugglers Ajax Cape Town in Polokwane.

The Urban Warriors had led through Abia Nale's 19-minute goal and dominated the entire half, but Lidoda Duvha equalised through Michael Nkambule's first touch, before captain Rodney Ramagalela netted a dramatic winner in stoppage-time.

With the match a potential six-point relegation swing, Ajax looked the hungrier and dominated the early stages, with Postnet Omony having to be at his best to deny Khama Billiat an early opener from a corner.

However, he was left bemused a few minutes later when another was taken short, allowing Nale’s to spin his marker before beating the Ugandan goalie at his near-post.

Omony redeemed himself on 24 minutes by pulling off a great save to keep out a thunderous long-range volley from Matthew Booth.

Leopards eventually did get a sight of goal, but Mongezi Bobe dragged his shot wide.

Whatever the halftime team-talk, it seemed to do the trick as the hosts flew out of the blocks after the break.

Raymond Monama came close with a powerful shot that flew just wide, before Bobe headed a cross across the face of goal, but no-one was there to tap home.

On 65 minutes Ramagalela turned to create some space for himself, but his curling effort was just wide of Sander Westerveld’s far-post, but the goal eventually did come on 74 minutes.

With his first touch of the game, Nkambule latched onto a poor clearance and fired a left-footed shot past the Dutch keeper.

It was just reward and seemed to wake the visitors up as Mabhuti Khenyeza and Billiat came close, but Leopards pushed hard for the winner and eventually it came.

After a point-blank save by Westerveld from Tiyani Mabunda and Brian Amidu seeing his shot cleared off the line by Nazeer Allie, Ramagalela pounced on Amidu’s deflected shot to scramble home.

The win sees Leopards draw level with Ajax on 23 points from 25 games, though the latter have the better goal-difference.
