Match report: Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns draw

Posted: 30 March 2013 Time: 17:48

Mamelodi Sundowns let a one-goal lead slip as they drew 1-1 with Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half after a scuffle between Henrico Botes and Alje Schut.

Schut had put the Brazilians in front on 18 minutes, but they could not hold on and Mogakolodi Ngele equalised for Dikwena in the second half.

Sundowns started brightly, and Elias Pelembe had a shot on target inside two minutes, but it came back off the upright.

The visitors then edged ahead when Pelembe swung in a corner from the right and Schut headed down into the net.

The Dutch defender might have had a second minutes later when he was again given a free header from a free-kick, but this time the ball went over the bar.

The game changed on 26 minutes when referee Victor Gomes sent off a player from either side. After Wayne Sandilands had saved a shot from Ngele, Botes followed up near the keeper, much to Schut’s annoyance. There was pushing, shoving, and what looked like a clash of heads, ending with both players being dismissed.

Stars deservedly grabbed an equaliser just before the hour mark when Thuso Phala was set free in the box. His shot cannoned against the base of the post, but after Sundowns failed to clear, Ngele rifled the ball low into the back of the net.

Soon after, substitute Richard Henyekane was the recipient of a magnificent ball from Teko Modise that left him one-on-one with Siyabonga Mpontshane, but the goalkeeper did brilliantly to block his shot.

Both teams will be back in League action midweek, when Sundowns host Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday, while Platinum Stars travel to Free State Stars the following day.

How can Sundowns win games when their useless coach takes them to watch porno movies, u could c gore those players ba tsogetswe strong. I will say it again Sundowns made a wrong move by appointing Pitso I mean this is a guy who failed the nation when he was a national coach he had all the luxury to select 23 players to represent Mzansi but he said he has only one striker his son Mphela and he got him @ Sundunu let's c what will he achieve with his son.
