PSL match report: Bloemfontein Celtic draw with Orlando Pirates

Posted: 6 March 2013 Time: 21:24

Vuyani Ntanga equalised for Bloemfontein Celtic in injury time to deny Orlando Pirates the points at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

Bucs are now five points behind Kaizer Chiefs on the Premiership log, although they have a game in hand.

The in-form Phunya Sele Sele came into the match on the back of a four-match winning streak, while the Bucanneers had been handed their first defeat since September 2012 when they lost to Moroka Swallows, and were also perhaps distracted by the upcoming Soweto Derby.

The game got off to a rather cautious start, before Daine Klate’s free-kick created some excitement on 25 minutes. Klate sent the ball into the box and it was pushed out by Celtic’s defence towards Thulasizwe Mbuyane, who struck an effort from range, but in the end it was easy pickings for Patrick Tignyemb.

At the other end of the pitch Lennox Bacela hit a snap-shot from just outside the box, which flashed inches high.

Mbuyane was Bucs’ most threatening player in the first half and he again tested Tignyemb with a shot on 36th minutes, but he was again denied by good goalkeeping.

Pirates were presented with the perfect opportunity to go a goal ahead into the break after Thabo Nthethe conceded a free-kick 20 yards out, but Klate’s set-piece once again lacked the threat needed to break the deadlock.

There was some uncharacteristic miscommunication between Nthethe and Tignyemb at the start of the second half, which Ndumiso Mabena almost took advantage of, but his header was just wide of the target.

In order to stabilise the backline and keep play compact, Clinton Larsen brought on the towering Dominic Isaacs for Bacela in the 64th minute, and Ruzaigh Gamildien joined the fray a few minutes later.

Going defensive was not the most positive of moves for Celtic and they soon found themselves a goal behind when Tlou Segolela was left unmarked in the box and headed home a cross at the near post.

Pirates looked content to keep a hold of their narrow lead and implemented some time-wasting tactics, however that came to bite them as Ntanga came off the bench to nod home a throw-in deep inside stoppage time.

Gucci Man

derby is a dferent ball game, even de unknowns come to de party. Rememba Lucky Skhukhune scoring in her first ever derby....Gcaba can be our life saviour khosi, de stakes are too high.
Dis is a game wher de lyks of Ncanana can make a name for demselves, kwaaaakz
u say we wil kaka i-achaar, i say u wil eat de kaka'd achaaar, hehehe
may de best team on de day, pirates win.
Bhakaniya .....I see lot of ppl are crucifying uGcaba for his poor perfomance , but I would like to ask you about u-Oupa Manyisa , is he delivering at the moment ?

Don't you think he needs a rest kancane ?
The problem with your Mazaza coach is that he's scared of ''CHANGE''....he stick to same formation , same players ....
For example .....there were couple of matches where Sifiso Myeni was playing kak, doing nothing on the field ..... and he was playing every match....until he got injured .
At the moment ppl don't see that Manyisa is exhausted , and maybe he should start from the bench.
Senzo Meyiwa ...is a good keeper , the problem with him is that uyaspita and
always caught out of position and its hard for him to defend the balls , and always conceding cheap goals.
He just need to focus for 90mins ....I still rate him higher than Moneeb Josephs
________________________________________________________________________@ Gucci Man, don't put it lightly for them rats fans boeta, the problem is much more serious at their camp:

1. They chased away a capable and winning coach in Ruud, mistake never corrected to date,
2. They relied too heavily on old-age players.e.g. Lucky Lecowthi, Mo Joseph, and lately Sangweni, this is an on-going problem and would haunt them like Downs,
3. Their ''reliable'' striking department is recruited based on weight and not perfomance, or value add, e.g. Bennie, Mbesuma, Chisanyama, Mbuyane. The exception is the best Defensive Striker in the entire PSL, Mabena,
4. Coaching department with no effective man-management skills, we all know he do not see eye-to-eye ( or should I say, fat-to-fat) with Bennie, and lately romours of other squabbles in the camp are coming forth,
5. Sapotas who have an ant's mind, I see no reason why Vampire Myeni would be called/compared to Lionel Messi, or "Head-don't lie" Manyisa, compared to Ace, or even the leaky Meyiwa being mentioned in the same line as No. SA goalkeeper,, this is on going.
6. The sudden drop in the value of the ''brown envelope'' contents, as a result no more soft penalties awarded,

So Khosi, no Gcaba/Matlaba/Kalaba/Kelepu/Gqubule would rescue them from sinking deeper in sh*t.

RDS please pair Jele & Legwati at the centre back. Gcaba needs a break and he is slow.

As for Mabena I give up!
