PSL Match report: Moroka Swallows beat Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 5 March 2013 Time: 21:42

Moroka Swallows beat a 10-man Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday.

Siyabonga Nomvete scored a penalty in the first half, after a foul by Method Mwanjali, who was sent off.

Swallows narrowly held on and were lucky to come away with all three points, despite having an extra man for most of the match.

Sundowns started the game brightly, with Anthony Laffor splitting the Swallows defence as soon as the fifth minute. Teko Modise played the Liberian into space but he failed to find the target with only the keeper to beat.

Sundowns dominated the early exchanges, with Laffor and especially Modise running the show in midfield. Swallows seemed to have forgotten how to play in the first 15 minutes of the game, with the Brazilians having 80 percent of the possession.

The Birds opened the scoring against the run of play when Nomvete netted his fifth goal of the season from the penalty spot, after David Mathebula was brought down from behind in the box by Mwanjali, who received a straight red.

The second half started much like the first with the Brazilians pressing forward, although Lerato Chabangu went close for the visitors with a fierce shot from the edge of the area on the hour mark, hitting the side netting.

Nyasha Mushekwi almost found the equaliser in the 73rd minute, when he got on the end of a Katlego Mphela chip, but his volley went narrowly wide of Greg Etafia’s post.

Mushekwi made a clear impact off the bench and again went close to restoring parity in the 82nd minute, his header from close range going just over the bar.

Manchester - Cristiano Ronaldo admitted he felt "sad" after his goal ended former club Manchester United's involvement in the Champions League and put Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

The Portuguese forward struck a 69th-minute winner at Old Trafford on Tuesday as Madrid fought from behind to earn a 2-1 win on the night and a 3-2 aggregate victory.

The 28-year-old, who spent six highly successful seasons at United, received a round of applause prior to kick-off and made a point of not celebrating his winning goal.

"The reception was unbelievable. It was an emotional moment for me, for both games, especially tonight," he told Sky Sports.

"I do not have words to explain how I feel. The supporters made me feel shy as I did not play how I play all the time.

"Anyway I helped my team, and I feel a little happy inside. On the other hand I feel sad as Manchester United are out."

The game's turning point arrived in the 56th minute, when Ronaldo's international colleague Nani was contentiously shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa.

Nani had forced Sergio Ramos to put through his own goal eight minutes earlier, but Madrid immediately capitalised on his dismissal, with Luka Modric equalising in the 66th minute before Ronaldo notched the winner.

"To be honest, I did not see what Nani did, but these situations happen in football," Ronaldo said

I dn't see anything wrong about Pitso last nite, mostly he was rite.

# He agree and accept de loss last nite even though sometimes u need a lucky to win some game.
# He didn't throw towel after he lost one man instead of defending he attack Swallows with ten man.
# after de game he mention dat he was playing entertaining soccer which he was rite but just because he lost de game we can't notice dat yes playing good football must also bring de result at de same time.
# was rite when he said he 's stil building for next cson, he join sundowns later dis cson worse de team was struggling but now he just nearly der in few games to come he wil be on top 8.
# mostly his first choice players were on suspension and injury.

as for next cson far as am concern he should release few players and have manageble team and sign strong centre back which i think Mor or Awal can be suitable for his team.

Ah is Nyandoro still playing! ah ah ah ah. This team is not serious. I sait it before and i am saying it again Pitso was a Affirmative Action appointee during 2010. He is black, young and had the right connections. There were much better couches at the time.

Now the chicken have come home to roost. After Sundown is down hill spiral for him. I see him ending up as something something soccer development in goverment, especially Free states province.

The boys played well after Teko"I am better than Messi" Modise was replaced. Towards the end of the game Mphela came back quite nicely and was very impressed with the overall perfomance of the yellow even if we lost. I left the stadium happy. For those who sleep on kickoff day and night spewing acidic bile the stadium is "a venue where people go watch soccer and entertain themselves."

Now go back to your stupid job atleast you have learnt something today.

Dream on baba, at Supabrand we do not recruit prima donnas, we get rid of them, you are stuck with Pitso, he did not sign a ashort term contract like Barker did at Wits. If you wana get rid of him, then Motsepe will have to pay him out and I do not see that happening. Its time Pitso realise that he is not the best coach ever to grace SA football, he thinks he is this messish that Dunusa has been longing for decades. What Pitso need to do is to re-instill confidence in his strikers, they miss clear cut chances and also need to bench the likes of Laffor and Mphela, yes they are good players but currently their good players tag does not work for Dunusa in the playing field, how can Laffor miss a clear chance like that? There is also an issue of leadership, I do not see any leadership in that team, all I see is Google Earth wearing the armband but does not lead the team whem the chips( not zebras) are down. Swallows must watch out for that Kumalo guy, he is going places and I do not see him staying long at Dube birds. Anyway the luckiest team won at the end of the game not the best team.

Idiots there is nothing wrong with Pitso this is his first loss after taking over. The boys are playing well with a lot of committment and enthuasism. For the first time in a long time I saw a Sundowns side witha lot of stamina for the whole 90minutes. No more lazy mothufackas!!!
