SuperSport United won the Tshwane Derby 1-0 against Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 10 March 2013 Time: 17:23

Mor Diouf’s 88th minute strike from within his own half secured all three points for SuperSport United against Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in a League match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Matsatsantsa ran out 1-0 victors but the Brazilians were very unlucky not to pick up a point on the day as they dominated proceedings.

SuperSport started off the game brightly through a Sameehg Doutie free-kick in the second minute of the game. The midfielder’s ball into the box managed to beat everyone and went inches wide of Sandilands goal.

Sundowns first chance of the match also came via a set-piece in the seventh minute of the match. Tebogo Langerman’s delivery found captain Alje Schut in the box, the defender’s effort on the volley went just wide of Ronwen Williams goal.

Williams denied Edward Manqele from a corner in the 13th minute of the game. The striker shook of his defender and powered a header towards goal but his effort was brilliantly saved by Williams.

The SuperSport shot-stopper came to Matsatsantsa’s rescue again three minutes later after a quick break from Sundowns. Anthony Laffor was the player denied by SuperSport’s keeper this time around.

In 33rd minute Sundowns again threatened the SuperSport goal but yet again Williams was up to the task. After great play by Laffor, Mushekwi found himself in space but was denied by a rushing Williams.

Williams was again in the mix in the 41st minute of the game but this time he brought down Anthony Laffor in the box and left the referee with no choice but to award the Brazilians a penalty.

Mushekwi stood up to take the penalty but the striker blazed his effort over the crossbar.

The Brazilians finally managed to beat Williams in the 43rd minute through Manqele but the striker was denied off the line by Innocent Mdledle.

Sundowns dominated the half and were unlucky not to be in front going into the half-time break.

Sundowns picked up were the left off and went close through Henyekane in the 49th minute. The midfielder beat a few defenders but was unable to control his effort and blasted his shot wide.

Matsatsantsa went close to opening the account through captain Kermit Erasmus in the 71st minute. The striker bamboozled the Brazilian defence with skill and sharp turning but he smacked his resulting shot wide of Sandilands right-hand post

Mor Diouf secured all three points for Matsatsantsa in the 88th minute of the game with a goal of the season contender. The defender picked up the ball well inside his half and blasted an unbelievable shot over Wayne Sandilands head.

Sundowns were made to rue their missed chances and remain in the bottom half ot the table. The result meant that Matsatsantsa move into seventh place on the log, while Sundowns remain in 11th place.

a team coached by Pitso never scores. BB, now Sundowns. I think Sundowns need to adopt a rugby style coaching. Pitso can be the overall coach, just like in rugby. Then we can have the strikers coach, just like in rugby where there's a forwards and a backline coach respectively, there's a scrum coach and kicking coach. I mean, what more can pitso do if his strikers keep on missing open goal posts? Mushekwi? Manqele? And what is the role of the galie coach @ sundowns if sandilands behaves like a high school kid? What the hell was he doing near the 18 yard line? I'm disgusted by our strikers and our goalie. Same against swallows. Dominate posession, but our strikers keep letting us down. We really need a rugby coaching style, have a strikers coach. What the hell was jabulani shongwe doing so far at the back? Jerre

there no crisis the pressure at bigger than any other team in SA the strikers seem to be off form. Sundowns should buy a good striker and a Goal there mid fielder are ok.

Guys our team Mamelodi Sundowns is an average and overated with highly paid players.
They played 21 games with the possible of 63 points they collected 23 and scored 16 times. Stats will gives you 33,3% thats average at its best, I wonder what goes onto Trot's mind besides releasing players and buying more under "Beefing up the team\".
Really this team is average.

Ver wise observation. Trott Moloto must go. I support Pirates but i am very unhappy about what is happening at Sundowns. Trott is the problem.

Once and Always until Zebra realise that they have brought the Champs back in it. They wull live to regret that defensice tactics

why do we have to point the coach, management, technical team or even whos starting or not.As the editor say "Sundowns was just unlucky" they could have buried Supersport by an avalanche of goals. And yes on the field of play Soweto derby is overrated. Its just the fans who are keeping it alive. And you know Im right.

It was a beautiful goal but the referee should have awarded Downs a setpiece. Diouf blocked the ball using his hand.
