Chippa United beat Black Leopards 3-1

Posted: 17 February 2013 Time: 17:36

Goals by Masibusane Zongo, Welcome Qalanto and Petrus Ngebo gave Chippa United a stress-relieving 3-1 victory over Black Leopards at the Philippi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

David Zulu’s consolation goal was all the away side could celebrate in the match.

Zongo had the Leopards defence in trouble as early as the seventh minute when he created space outside the box and had some time to correctly place his shot, but he ended up shooting over.

Leopards, however, should have taken the lead in the 16th minute, but they messed up a terrible one-on-one situation after Chippa’s failed offside trap. Joshua Obaje cut inside from the right flank, but could only blast his low right-footed shot across the face of goal.

In the 37th minute Zongo, who had continued to be a menace to the Leopards defence, illustrated a moment of brilliance that had the crowd on its feet, but most importantly gave his side the vital 1-0 lead.

The skilful winger beat his marker before sending a curling left-footed shot from the right flank which gave Azwidini Maphaha no chance.

The Chilli Boys were hot and extended their lead six minutes later when midfielder Brent Carelse picked out Qalanto in the box and the big forward headed home as the ball rebounded off the bar and into the net.

Six minutes into the second half, a double save from Maphaha denied the home side from making it 3-0. Zongo cut inside from the right and cracked a long-range shot which Maphaha parried into the path of Carelse, but the midfielder was denied from close range.

The Limpopo outfit lifted their game and it paid off in the 69th minute when they reduced the deficit. Raymond Monama and Obaje stretched the Chippa defence, allow for Zulu to tap into an empty net at the far end.

However, the home side put the result to bed with a third goal in the 88th minute through substitute Ngebo. William Thwala picked out the former Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United forward and he headed home from close range.
