Orlando Pirates go top of Prermiership log after win over SuperSport United

Posted: 13 February 2013 Time: 21:33

Orlando Pirates climbed up to the top of the Premiership table when they defeated SuperSport United 1-0 at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

Oupa Manyisa scored for Bucs early on, before Jali had a penalty saved in the second half.

The Buccaneers took the lead in the second minute when Collins Mbesuma’s deft touch allowed Manyisa to run free towards goal before tucking the ball under the onrushing Ronwen Williams.

Franklin Cale tried to find a quick equaliser at the other end two minutes later but he failed to keep his shot down from just outside the penalty area.

Daine Klate should have doubled the lead in the ninth minute when a defensive error saw him receiving the ball unmarked a few yards out, but somehow he volleyed over the crossbar.

The rest of the half saw SuperSport playing long balls towards their front men, Bradley Grobler and Simba Sithole, but they were unable to force Senzo Meyiwa into a save.

Sifiso Myeni could have extended the home side’s lead in the 39th minute after receiving a pass from Klate, but he dragged his shot wide of the far post

Klate had yet another chance to get his name on the scoresheet five minutes into the second half when he met a cross from Happy Jele at the far post, but Williams produced an acrobatic save to block his shot before gathering on second attempt.

Then, in the 53rd minute, Sithole missed a great chance to mark his debut for Matsatsantsa with a goal, as he headed a pin-point cross from Edwin Gyimah over the crossbar.

Seven minutes later Gyimah managed to create some shooting space just outside the penalty area, only for his shot to go narrowly over the bar.

Roger de Sa’s men were then given another chance to double their lead in the 72nd minute when they were awarded a penalty for an infringement on Klate by Davis Nkausu, but Williams produced another good save to deny Jali from the spot.

Both sides had chances to score in the closing stages of the match, but Gyimah's header fizzed just wide of the post in the 86th minute, before substitute Mark Mayambela was denied by another good save from Williams four minutes later.

I am pissed off!!!

SSU played that javelin football and Gavin Hunt has the Majoros to call that 'dominating' the game.

RDS is right. A person outside the stadium could've watched that game. Long balls and longs throws.

But RDS should've controlled the game. The kick the ball in the air, and we put it down and play football. RDS has more work to do. I'm not impressed.

Welcome back Professor.

We are where we belong now.
