Orlando Pirates beat Bidvest Wits

Posted: 24 November 2012 Time: 19:55

Goals from Thabo Matlaba and Tlou Segelola saw Orlando Pirates beat Bidvest Wits 2-0 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

With Kaizer Chiefs having lost to Platinum Stars earlier in the day, Bucs were desperate for the win to close the gap at the top of the standings.

The Clever Boys started the game in a very defensive manner and seemed to have frustrated the home side until a moment of brilliance by Matlaba secured the opening goal.

It was a goal against the run of play in the 33rd minute. Matlaba got the ball just over the half way line and he did not wait too long until firing in a thunderous long-range attempt, which sailed high and over Ryan Harrison and into the top corner.

In the 42nd minute Calvin Kadi and Sibusiso Vilakazi combined well, but Pirates were quick enough to stop the potential danger.

It took three minutes into the second half for Bucs keeper Senzo Meyiwa to have his first save of the game from Ofentse Nato, who just could not get enough power behind his effort.

Then in the 55th minute came the moment of controversy as Wits had a penalty appeal turned down. Calvin Kadi beat Siyabonga Sangweni for pace and the Bucs defender seemed to clip the striker in the box, but the referee waved play on.

And it was Pirates who scored the next goal. This time, Matlaba supplied the ball to Segolela, who flicked the ball over the advancing Harrison for another fine goal.

For sure your stomach runs when you look over your shoulder. Who can"t be scared when a ghost closes a gap behind you, with you running at full speed but a ghost closing the gap?

Matlaba has proved that he can do what Nyawana has never, and will never do. Being a left footed player, Tibos Matlaba has scored a cracker with his right foot... I repeat...his right foot. This is a fact. It is truth that cannot be disputed. It's infallible truth. It is independent on opinion. It is pure truth. Simphiwe 'Nyawana' Tshabalala will never score a goal like that with his right foot even if you take him 25 meters closer than where Tibos struck it

To be honest Baxter will have sleepless night towards the Derby who will stop this Pirates Ship sailing collecting 3points non stop with Sea Robbers singing Happy People. To our wingers and middle i would like to see them supply more balls to Strikers, We all know what Mbesuma and Takesure do when given the opportunity

Now that goals are coming from Meyiwa to Mbesuma, none can stop our confident, loaded Black Pearl. We will deal with everything above us severely, not to mention those that dare challenge us.

Mabhakaneer i think Jele should start the next game in his original position and Matlaba return to his and Phungwayo rest on the bench. His defensive skills are suspect. Phungwayo is only good going forward.
