Platinum Stars beat Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 24 November 2012 Time: 17:26

Platinum Stars showed their early season form is no flash in the pan as they ran out 2-0 winners over previously unbeaten Kaizer Chiefs in an exciting Premiership game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

The result takes the team from the North West up to third spot above Maritzburg United for the time being and leaves them five points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

There were early half chances for both sides as Mogakolodi Ngele shot straight at Itumeleng Khune, with Lehlohonolo Majoro doing likewise at the other end for the visitors.

But overall it was a determined Dikwena who were the stronger side during the opening half and they took a deserved lead after 15 minutes when Henrico Botes slotted the ball past Khune for a composed low finish into the bottom corner after being put in on goal by Thuso Phala.

Within 10 minutes and Chiefs were to fall a further goal behind when Botes floated a brilliant ball across field for Edward Tshabalala, who squared the ball to the edge of the area for Ngele to fire home via a deflection.

Amakhosi would have felt hard done by not to have had the chance to pull a goal back a minute before the break when a goal-bound Majoro was booked for protesting after being flagged off side, although he seemed to be on-side.

It could have got worse for Chiefs though in added time when Botes’ overhead kicked rocked the woodwork.

The second half failed to deliver the quality and goalmouth action of the first-half as Stars were relatively happy to sit back and soak up any pressure that came their way.

This resulted in disjointed and scrappy football as neither team were able to find penetration in and around the opposition box.

On 65 minutes though Innocent Mkhabela had a good chance to make it three for Stars as he broke through on goal before losing his marker, but he shot straight at Khune.

Botes then also missed another chance to extend the lead when he miscued after a great team move by Stars.

Chiefs upped the ante as the match approached the 75 minute mark, but their efforts, through Siphiwe Tshabalala and Nkhatha, were either off target or from too far away to trouble the Dikwena goalkeeper.

Willard Katsande had two shots from distance in the dying minutes, while Nkhatha fluffed a decent chance in the box, but it was not to be Chiefs’ day as Stuart Baxter’s side lost for the first time in the League in 12 games.

Mosixty my friend ,agree with you that we just played poorly today , some players holding on to long to the ball others playing without purpose but i disagree with you as far as Shabalala's performance is concerned today . He was far better than the rest especially in the second half . For me the useless player to be rested so far is Parker . He plays like a siesie man , just one push from another man , boom !!!! he falls . He falls too easy just like Steven Pienaar when he plays for Bafana Bafana . Look how many times do you see Parker working hard in the match . He plays for 10minutes and disappear for the entire 80minutes and that is why he is nolonger scoring goals . Uyabhaca lobaba just like what he used to do during V V's days . Rest Parker klaar ,maybe he will wake up and show the same commitment i see from Majoro in every game . I just cannot understand how the laaaaazy Parker keeps Nkatha on the bench becos he fights for no bols man

Siyabonga Nkosi was he playing? Gaxa was he playing? Zvasiya was he playing? Tshabalala was he playing? Without Yeye not so good looking Chiefs struggled. And Majoro forgot his golden balls at home titititititi.....................

I sometimes like going to the zoo but what i saw today may stop me forever. There was this striped animal standing close to the zoo pond. I tried to scare it off as i know that the pond has some large jaw reptiles but the striped animal became stubborn. I simply left it there but without a long distance from the pond, i heard a very large splash and i immediately turned to see what was happening. Suddenly i saw some stripes sinking in the water pond and i sped off to see if the stubborn striped animal will rescue itself. That never happened and the poor stripes vanished under the water. IJOO ZEBRA E JELWE KE KWENA. SHUU, POOR STUBBORN ANIMAL!

Are you talking about the trophies you just lost so far this season..... You must remember that teams are gunning for your trophies. They don't just focus at Chiefs, look at other teams that are going for last trophy yall have now.

Now you have started counting how many cows are in the kraal, lol with just 1 loss? The media really knows how to destroy this mediocre team. Praising a bunch of nobodies as invinsible and unstopable? Will they rise from the dead? I doubt because looking at the defence is just as poor as in the last game against Swallows.

Well done to Platinum Stars they were well prepared on the day. And our players also tried but Stars was good. A lesson we can learn from this game is that all teams in the PSL play to win so we also should show that spirit in each and every game this season. Let's regroup and not changed the mandate. That's a simple mandate we have at Kaizer Chiefs that we win 2012/2013 with clear points.

Reclaiming the Glory is our motto.

Sure member nice observation khosi....when I say Shabba was not effective I refer mainly to the performance he had in the first half where him and Nkosi were struggling with pace and resulted in Katsande being over worked, remember we conceded during this period..... If u look during the first half......shabba did not support both Masilela and Gaxa whenever he altanate positions....he allowed P/stars to attack freely on the wings as for Nkosi, he was a passenger....the first 10 minutes was already tired.....non the less, we still on top and it will remain So for a very long time. Rise khosi Rise

Why replace the enterprizing Lebese when the lazy Parker who hardly had one shot at goal or brought any decent cross is there . This is not the only game where Parker has been useless . He did very little for the last 5 games . I dont like Orlando Wits ,oops !!!! i mean Orlando Pierats but i like the commitment you see from all players , no siesies there or players that hide or disappear . If you disposses Parker, he stops playing and not help out to recover the ball . He also holds on to the ball for no reason . I can assure you that the Orlando Wits would keep him on the bench if he was playing for Wits Pierats . Hardy Khosi , we will rise again becos these Rats will play a draw today unless as always they get given a last minute penalty
treble freedom in our life time
