Orlando Pirates beat Black Leopards 4-0

Posted: 21 November 2012 Time: 21:22

Orlando Pirates closed the gap on arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs with a 4-0 drubbing of Black Leopards on Wednesday night.

Goals from Collins Mbesuma, Thandani Ntshumayelo, Daine Klate and a fairy tale strike from Happy Jele saw second-placed Orlando Pirates narrow the points deficit to four from Kaizer Chiefs.

The first real chance of the match fell to Pirates in the 15th minute as Azwindini Maphaha made a great to deny Oupa Manyisa, who had received a pass from Klate from a corner kick.

In the 26th minute Maphaha pulled off another superb save, this time to deny Klate's right-footed effort from inside the box.

Leopards had their best chance of the first stanza as Joshua Obaje rounded Senzo Meyiwa, but Lidoda Duvha were unlucky to watch his shot cleared off the line by Lucky Lekgwathi.

A minute before the half ended, Pirates had arguably their best chance of the half when Klate’s defence-splitting pass found an unmarked Masuku, but again Mapaha kept Pirates at bay.

A minute into first half stoppage time, Leopards’ Michael Nkambule missed a sitter from just inside the box as he shot high with Meyiwa at his mercy.

Pirates’ perseverance paid off when a mistake from the Leopards defence saw Mbesuma benefit; he was left unmarked and unleashed a thunderous left-footed shot into the roof of the net.

Man of the Match Ntshumayelo doubled the lead when a short corner taken by Masuku found him on the edge of the box and the midfielder unleashed a rocket past Maphaha in the 60th minute.

Bucs showed they are true champions as they made it 3-0 - Segolela crossed for Klate on the right side and the winger volleyed home.

Jele then put the final nail in the coffin. The defender got in front of the Leopards keeper on the near post and headed home from a corner; an incredible story for a player returning from a career-threatening long injury layoff.

Good game Gorillas. Now you lead the Q2 standings. Or maybe you don't want that, you only want to win the league unlike other teams ? Marathon my foot. On another note, are these coaches trying to get Jele and Masilela ready for the derby ?I for one would rather have Masilela than Ritchie at left back. That boy does not know how to position himself hence he always has to track back and make sliding tackles which will one day lead to penalties. Otherwise the true giants of SA football at the top of their game is a sight to behold. Khosi4Life

For yrs we have been singing with tortoises that league race is a marathon, but now that they are topping the charts they change tune, in fact, they become very angry when hearing the word marathon as if it means they no longer top the charts. MTN8 came and went, Telkom cup came and in its final stage this month, yet league race isnt even halfway through, simply because its a marathon, not sprint. How I wish Fundowns, SSU, Ajax were all doing well to make this season very interesting and enjoyable. Lets hope as time progresses at least SSU and Fundowns will 'come to the party'. I dont know about tortoises, but I am sure Pirates are making Jele ready for the rest of the season, not derby, as for Pirates every game counts in this marathon as they are defending champions.

Ofcourse Pirates's win will make others think of December the 8th , here at OPFC we live one game at the time , there are many other games to play before this so called judgement day for Pirates , we shall wait for that day without even paying much attention to it the same way as we wait the Mia's day in December

I saw this comment and I liked it not because the writer is a genius but because he's a retard. Since when you live one game at a time? This December 8th was first yelled over this forum by your imbecile of troops you call supporters.

Leopards? Is it worth the celebrations? The same Leopards Chiefs scored 4 goals against in different games? Gorillas are in denial.

This was a beautiful game for the Buccaneers.

I am struggling to recall the last time in recent history when Pirates scored at least 4 goals in a league match. What pleases me the most is that we are continuing to get goals from a large group of players, as compared to looking at one or two people for those goals.
