University of Pretoria and Mamelodi Sundowns draw

Posted: 10 November 2012 Time: 17:24

Junior Sibande cancelled out Anthony Laffor’s early goal as the University of Pretoria held Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw at the Tuks Stadium on Saturday.

The draw in this Tshwane derby means that Sundowns have not won in the League in nine consecutive games and remain rooted at the bottom of the standings.

A left-footed shot by Dumisani Ngwenya from 20 yards out was saved by Sundowns keeper Wayne Sandilands, before the visitors took the lead on 15th minute when Laffor cut in from the left and with a bit of space and time he curled a brilliant shot beyond the AmaTuks keeper.

It was the Brazilians’ first goal that they have scored in a first half of a League match this season.

Tuks were keeping the discipline and shape in the middle of the park despite falling behind and, with Sundowns looking vulnerable in defence like they have done all season, they conceded the equaliser on the half-hour mark.

Sibande received a pass from Aubrey Ngoma from a short comer and hit a left-footed shot from 35 yards out which deflected off Eleazar Rodgers and into the net.

Tuks were motivated by the vocal supporters and had an opportunity to take the lead when Bongani Zungu took a shot, only to see Sandilands fingertip the effort over the bar in the 39th minute.

Downs had a chance to reclaim the lead in the 50th minute when Jabulani Shongwe - who was a having fine match orchestrating his team’s attacking moves - found space down the left, but could only hit wide of the target.

Neither team threatened much in the later stages of the match and it ended in a draw.

The results are not forthcoming but it is not a crisis yet. If we could just register a win in the league then all might just go back to normal. Our current position in the league is temporary. The only problem is that the gap between us and the log leaders is too huge. We desperately need a win in the Telkom cup to give us hope for the good results in the league. It is real, the games have begun.

Only a mad person would think we can ever recover with Rre Neeskens, with all due respect. We can't win anything if we always play with 10 men while other teams have 11. Rodgers is killing the hardwork done by other players & I guess it is not Trott or Makhanya fielding him, so this thing of they should be fired for the team to start winning is just nonsense. That guy lacks everything you can imagine in a player of today, he can't make good runs into space like Nyasha or Henyekane or Manqele, can't create a scoring chance, can't shield the ball, can't shoot from a distance, can't put defenders under any form of pressure etc. He looses possession the whole 90mins and yet Neeskens fails to see that he's the weakest link which then by extension implies that the weakest link is none other than the coach himself. I wish I could hate this team coz week in week out we get nonsense like there are a lot of nosensical positives that aren't giving us any results yet our president sees no evil.

This team has all the players to win any silvaware on offer, the problem are the lunatics called the Technical Team.

Eish, afterall what do we benefit from supporting this team?........ Frustrations.
