Mkhanyiseli Siwahla cancels out Lerato Chabangu's opener

Posted: 9 November 2012 Time: 21:59

Moroka Swallows were held to a 1-1 draw by top-flight rookies Chippa United at Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night.

Lerato Chabangu put the Birds ahead midway through the first half, but the Chilli Boys claimed a share of the points thanks to a late goal from Mkhanyiseli Siwahla.

After a quiet start in which neither team was able to create much more than half-chances, Swallows took the lead on 23 minutes when Chabangu scored with a glancing header from David Mathebula’s free-kick.

Chippa threatened only fleetingly in the first half – one such occasion arrived in the 27th minute when Sindiso Nqothani got in behind the Swallows defence, but his first touch was poor and allowed goalkeeper Greg Etafia to smother the ball.

Chippa were dealt a major blow toward the end of the first half when Vuyisile Ntombayithethi seemed to dislocate his shoulder in a collision, resulting in his withdrawal before the interval. He was replaced by Martin Moonsamy.

The Cape side improved after the break, enjoying the torrential rain in Soweto more than their hosts, and should have brought themselves level on 58 minutes when an Etafia clearance was charged down and fell straight to Welcome Qalanto, but he rushed his attempted lob and missed the target.

Qalanto had another chance in the 82nd minute when a clever knock-down from Andile Mbenyane put the striker in on goal, but Etafia did just enough to force the Chippa player to shoot wide of goal.

On 87 minutes the Chilli Boys were rewarded for their second half endeavours when substitute Siwahla scored an excellent solo goal, skinning Shere Lekgothoane down the right before beating Etafia at his near post with a well-struck shot.

About Teko:
It's in today's newspaper(isolezwe) that he requested Meyiwa to let him score a goal and when Meyiwa told him that he was working, he passed some bad remarks and pushed him(the incident we saw). Sundowns must get rid of this guy before it's too late he's the bad influence in the team, remember at Pirates. I'm waiting for the insults again as usual from Teko admirers.

Guys Swallows is doing fine the only minus is in the midfield where the overated Lefa is operating. The guy is no longer running, not creating anything, always alone when the taem is defending, giving possesion away and the coach cann't pick that up. I challenge you guys to watch his performance when swai is playing you'll observe what i'm talking about. The guy even take 10 minutes without touching a ball but just running around. What is left with him is the armband.

@Starwashelela 1937............ I watch all swallows' games n dnt remember Him (Shere) making a positive impact on dat game, which why He ws always used as a back up for Mayinga wen Gordon ws in charge last seasn, all I remember Him doing is giving away a penalty against sundowns in da mtn8 semi fanal - 1st leg. He also gave away a ball to Doutie in da mtn8 final which resulted in SSU's goal dat day......He always make ineffective runs leaving His man unmarked. He hardly wins the ball frm opponents n always relies on cover frm either mungomeni or Hendricks.... He is the worst defender I hve ever seen in my life........ Even Siyabonga Nomvethe cn do far better than Lekgothoane in dat left back position..... Swallows is always playing wit 1 man short coz Shere only makes things easy for the opponents....... I wonder wen is He going to get red carded or any form of suspension which wl gve Zeca Marques no option bt not to have Shere Lekgothoane in the team sheet. I dnt normally have individual players bt Shere I do hate Him.
