Orlando Pirates thump Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld

Posted: 7 November 2012 Time: 21:19

Orlando Pirates moved up to second place in the log standings after a comprehensive 3-1 win against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers led at halftime through Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Takesure Chinyama, while Sifiso Myeni added another before Edward Manqele's late consolation.

Sundowns couldn’t afford anymore slip-ups in the League, and they got off to the better start when Teko Modise’s sixth-minute free-kick narrowly went just over the crossbar.

A moment of brilliance proved to be the difference in the opening stages when Mbuyane tapped home after good work by Chinyama.

It was a frustrating moment for Sundowns as they struggled to make anything from all their possession, with their own fans jeering Eleazar Rodgers for not being able to convert his chances.

And Pirates doubled their lead just before the break when they exposed the defence with some quick passing which eventually led to Myeni laying the ball off to Chinyama, who curled a 20-yard shot past Wayne Sandilands.

It was the same story just after the break when Daine Klate forced the goalie into a smart save, while Jabu Shongwe came closest for The Brazilians, hitting the crossbar with a powerful long-range drive.

However, Sundowns were out of ideas and eventually conceded a third when the former Bidvest Wits duo, Patrick Phungwayo and Myeni, interchanged passes before the latter finished with an expert finish.

Sundowns pulled one back through substitute Edward Manqele, but it was nothing more than a consolation, increasing the pressure on their coach Johan Neeskens.

The fact is that Pirates will never win with a clear 3 goals to zero.....only at chiefs where we r able to do that. Be careful the 8th of December I will come along with 2 tortoises( glory and rise) and the score will be 2-0 to chiefs

Iyoooooo.........Marabastad FC havebhitnrock bottom. Shame ! How do you lose 3-1 to a team that couldn't hold on to 3-1 lead in injury time just 3 days ago ?

Motsepe must just cut his losses and offload this useless team to a group of Mamelodi tavern owners.

I am still not convinced about the way our defenders are doing their job, I am not sure whether its coach's plan or what.We seem to be considering goals on the last minutes of the game , again why play long ball when we are accurate with passes, why can't we play a simple football in Europe thay can do it better so lets not try to them.

U just cannot play Teko n Shongwe at the same time, they will run into each other's spaces.

Laffor is a liability n Pelembe has lost his spark, Sundowns should have released him.

Nyandoro is late. Punch exposes his defence by making silly runs.

Rodgers is not a Sundowns type.

Neskeens its time to leave madala webhunu.

I suspect Santawana owes Mbuyane something , why does he bliksem hulle so much ? Everytime he plays this confused team he scores . I wish Sundowns can keep this coach sothat they can play amaplay-offs at the end of the SEASON . Hey ,MaSandawana , has Laffor suddenly become the Sundowns' PRO ?

What is happening @ Marabastad is pure robbery of Motsepe's money. It is time Motsepe rethinks the salary structure of his players. Why not pay this useless players an ordinary basic salary and pay them winning bonuses equalling 10 times their basic salary to force them to perform.

Here we are. A team with the highest paid players in the league sitting comfortably at the bottom of the log. This is a disgrace.

Lack ur and Pelembe are just wasteful...how do u expect to win a game with an old man like NYAMDORO? Arendse and Schut or whatever his ne is are just as slow as a chameleon!!!

Tltltltltltltltltl....is MYENI now a great player in the world, from earlier been called a cow to "MYESSI"? Hai confused GORILLAS, DOMS should honestly apologize to us for that 4-1 humiliation nxa....useless bunch of players, how to u take all the great players and still fail to win? How is BB expects to do well with all our best players benched and not playing well at their team? MOTSEPE should so apologize to the country for this!!!

Leave the coach alone. Sundown must change their transfer policy, there is too many big egos in the team and no direction what so ever. For one to succeed, you need youth to blend with the experienced and hungry players.

A player without ambition is a danger in any team, too much money and lack of interest to play overseas is what is also killing the team
